The popular BitTorrent client server gets a much needed update, especially in light of yesterdays reports of the remote exploit hack.

Today there is an update of the uTorrent BitTorrent client server available, it's version 1.6.1 build 488 STABLE.

This is particularly important in light of yesterday's news noting how the previous stable release was vulnerable to hackers who could infiltrate your PC and execute arbitrary code if a user opens a manipulated torrent tracker file.

The apparent "glitch" in the software was that torrent tracker fields may contain an "announce"

As you could already see, new µTorrent 1.6.1 is not currently allowed on several torrent sites including bitmetv.
Anyone trust this update? Is it safe to use? Should we better use the old version avoiding to open untrusted .torrent files or do you trust this new update?

Me too. I use only Azureus, though it takes much memory, but it is powerful.

Well.. Maybe you're right to prefer it ... And with all the rumours around µTorrent, maybe i'll switch back to Azureus, too.
Anyway ... will wait and see for now ...

i've been using it without incident on all my sites since it became available. Rumors are just that without proof, rumors.

these are just unfounded rumours. bitmetv made complete asses of themselves being the ONLY torrentsite not up to speed on this. they banned utorrent 1.6.1 while 4/5ths of their uTorrent userbase had already upgraded  (and had to allow it, of course!)

..and, please, if you use Azureus and hate uTorrent, could you please abstain from putting "i use A and U sucks" off topic comments in a thread that discusses uTorrent v. 1.6.1? :icon_salu

Have they made a uTorrent version that is compatible with mac os x?

no, not yet bobcat35. i'd say use Azureus. there's nothing wrong with it, and a MAC can handle the workload ;)
