Iowa tech company BayTPS trying to recruit P2P spies, and yet even at $70,000 "rats" are still hard to come by.

The DesMoines Register has an interesting article about its newest entrant to the Iowa tech scene, and how it has gone begging for applicants to jobs that it has found difficult to fill.

The company is BayTSP, the source of frequent icon tray "blinking" on the magic IP blocker that is is PeerGuardian.

BayTSP, a San Jose, California-based corporation, is marketed as the "...leading provider of anti-piracy and copyright tracking services to the digital media

they could hire someone that downloads stuff on their own. I mean with the magic of usb hard drives now, people that are hired can still download music/movies/games/etc. and hide it in their usb hdd and just disconnect it if necessary. 70,000 is a lot of money for being a rat for p2p networks, but is it really worth it? In honest opinion that would be a last resort but even then I personally would try all means to avoid that.

I would take that job in a heart beat. I like file sharing but yeah, I like $70,000 better.

An Honest man that can admit his price, that is admirable.:icon_salu

I didn't see anything in the article suggesting they are trying to pay p2pers to rat each other out.

They are just having trouble finding suitably skilled people to fill their posts. And when you can find better paid jobs elsewhere, it's no surprise.

actually i change my mind... $70,000 is a decent amount for my age (19). so in all reality I would do this, but I wouldn't want to turn my back on the filesharing world.

Yah, its more like getting people to rat others out period. The dilemma is though that when you track down somebodys IP you pass it on to the legal team for prosecution without any idea what that persons economic level is, and chances are rich people and those with means arent grabbing a CAM or the newest Jay-Z album, its joe schmoe makin' 12 bucks an hour, Johhny teenager or college student, or the old guy on a fixed income with nothing better to do.

As usual, the rich get richer while the average guy gets the shaft once again.

I also wonder if its more than money thats making people reluctant to sign on, after all, who wants to play beat cop on Limewire, can u imagine? yuck.

Can't be any worse than playing beat cop on Zero Paid . . .

$70 is hefty for a young person, but in the Bay area it's like $50k anywhere else. I really dont see how this would require much skill, you dont have to be a systems engineer, NOC tech or particularly educated to get someones IP address and cut n paste. I guess it beats fast food.

Hell I could do that job from home in my PJs and get employee of the month. I need more $ though.

That job would be a walk in the park, I'm SO surprised by the wage packet (quite tempting I must say) but it's immoral so nope!

Gods, I hope you're not talking about BayTSP.

You know how they say "Google is your Friend?" Even basic MSN was my friend on this one.

http://www.baytsp.com/

This all reminds me of Audible Magic, a place not far from BayTSP, both in location and purpose.

Hey, at least some of them get paid something.
