I've wondered that in the past too on behalf of those damn criminals who don't have honestly bought software or who have some complication preventing update.

I've heard it is possible to dl a more updated version of XP Professional that already includes relevant updates. In theory I suppose you could get it and then just do the upgrade with it. I've heard some dastardly folks found that worked.

As a rule, Windows Update is not the place to get drivers.

http://www.usbman.com/Drivers%20and%20Patches.htm

As for PATCHING your box - do this.

http://www.autopatcher.com/downloads/

Download the FULL for XP - install it - run it.

Then get the January 2007 UPDATE and install that.

Take your time and be very judicious about the updates you install, stay away from DRM etc.

Don't install every 3rd party software available in that software either.

Lets not turn this in to a windows update thread, he wants a USB 2 driver, and we dont even know IF HE HAS USB 2 or not.

You can't just magically stick a USB 2 driver on a system with USB 1 ports and make it faster.

I gave him a USB site to search for free drivers, and he could use the Everest software if he isnt sure.

Those are both fine posts, why don't one of you start a Windows Update thread with several alternatives.

If you have any experience with one add some commentary.

it should say the makers of the chip on it. Or if you purchased it with a box it should say on there.

I REPEAT

Get a copy of Everest Corp or Everest Ultimate

Use this to survey your hardware, I manage hundreds . . thousands . . of servers and varieties of configurations, this tool tells me whats missing off new builds etc very quickly.

Just a comment:

@that 9down site Krell suggested for you to look........ bookmark that one as you may need it for future research. *TIP*

My updates I get it from same Microsoft website, and times I need to do for other computers I go and do the autopatcher way.
