View Full Version : Issues as of late

I would like to take a moment and start an open debate about what is going on around here as of late. Many of your senior members often think that I don't listen and to be honest that is just not true. The point is, I do care about what is going on around here thus why I am opening up and want to hear from you.
I had a good discussion with Twodeer tonight and I really appreciate some of you members that contact me directly instead of trashing me on the site. This is the best way to communicate with me, as sometimes things get taken out of context on the public forums.
First off, I know that a certain person was given mod powers that maybe should not have, however this person was given powers to one forum and completely F*cked up. This was my fault not speaking to other senior members about it. This person is doing a great job here and I wish some of you would treat him with a little more respect.
Secondly, the BT thread. This is a tricky one... I know that most of you senior members don't really care for this thread and that it causes a lot of headache, but hear me out. The BT thread has brought new members to the site, and yes it has caused some scamming, spamming and flaming about. But there is something to be gained from this: fresh users. As I am sure most of you know about 80/20, 80% of them might be noobs, scammers and flamers, but what about the 20%? This 20% might be just what every forum needs, fresh insight and new ideas. I'm not exactly 100% happy with the thread, thus why I am trying to create a environment where trading can happen. I know I can't make it totally safe, but I am trying. I really think there is a need to fill there and I want to be the site that fills that need. I want to help flourish good trades with good users, I want to see people utilize the strength of sharing. I know there are 2 sides to every story, and maybe the bt trading is leading down a bad path, but for the elitists out there, I think this can be a good thing. Didn't I listen when I spoke up about the rep issue? Yes I did. I asked what everyone thought about implementing the feature and made a conscious choice about what everyone said. I am also listening to how I can make it better, and in the third round of coding, I hope I can make it better.
Lastly, it's easy to say what is wrong with the world, it's even harder to make a difference. We are trying to grow, sometimes there are growing pains.
Now, I'm sure that some of you will think that the only reason why I am doing this is cause of the loss of some good members, but they and I know where their home and I always want to make this home a better, safer place. People that know me, know of this to be true. Some of you get the wrong impression from the wrong people, some of you still think we sell IP's and work for the RIAA. RIGHT!

Show that you care... actions speak louder than words. Why do members feel like you don't care? Because, ask yourself, what have you done after looking at feedback to show that you are paying attention? Sometimes it seems like you just disappear while we rant about new features. Maintaining good communication would be a plus.
Tell soulxtc to quit asking the mods for their opinions in the mod thread, then doing what he wants to anyways after either no replies or just a few.
Whoever is deleting posts really should stop. The entire 'discussion' about whether or not soulxtc was going to create the BT Trading Thread has magically disappeared from the crib. Convenient, really.
Speaking of deleting posts... deleting posts because of a personal vendetta against someone is stupid. Citing the reason as "lame" when a post is really no lame than most others just seems like an abuse of power.
I understand the thread is there to stay.... are there different moderation rules there I'm not aware of? Duplicate posts normally are spam, but over there it's commonplace and perfectly okay. Remind me not to delete them or else soulxtc will delete my post pointing out the issue.
And I'm sure there's more, but I have a life to get back to.

Sorry, Jorge. You are just asking for troubles with BT Trading thread! I know you would like new users, but if 80% are bad doesn't make this place feels good to come "home" to. If this continues, that thread would be the only thread around to keep the forum alive!

I don't think you (ZP) need less Bit Torrent.
YOU NEED MORE BIT TORENT
That includes private site invite trading (but in a specially designed web application, just like you're trying to do now).
Three BT sites are in the top 200 sites in the WORLD.
Don't under estimate how popular BT is.
I have often tried to post new stuff on this site and have been shouted down by "Senior" members who fear change.
Jorge be STRONG - change is needed.
Don't be blackmailed into giving-up.
I would like to able to have a discussion on this site about anonymous p2p without be flamed, one day, but maybe that is asking for too much LOL.

Please explain how site invite trading is a huge threat to the private bit torrent community?
OK - So first stop invite trading cos the users who trade these invites don't own the intellectual property for these , right?
Then ban file trading for the same reason, right?
You don't get it do you BLACK_MAGIC.
Freedom means being able to be free.
Free to share information like site invites without the MAN stopping you.
I take it these trades are FREE so this is totally within the ZP (Zeropaid) spirit ;-)

Your debating skills are *cough*. That paragraph doesn't make any sense unless you're saying Soulxtc and pamela69 are the same person. They aren't, so......
Secondly, the BT thread. This is a tricky one...
Indeed. I've already written off your debating skills so I'll look at it from another direction.
How are your coding skills? I notice that negative rep isn't included in your tally. I wonder if that was your invention or vbulletins. Either way you have managed to keep the lounge threads off the front page. Can you keep the trading post out of the "display new posts"? People posting 4 times in 15 minutes in the same thread don't need to "view new posts", they need to refresh.
--
Anyway, on a personal note, you're a jerk. Psilaxs was looking for compromise yesterday with you. You shat on him. Why shat on the people looking for compromise? If you aren't willing to compromise what is the purpose of this thread? It's not a Bush townhall is it?

You are the one who doesn't get it. I'm sure there are tons of people who will back me up on this. The whole idea behind private trackers is that they are a community of people built on trust. Members of the site are supposed to give invites out to friends they trust who then invite more friends they trust. The invites are not to be given out willy nilly all over the internet to random strangers. I don't know what part of this is so hard to comprehend. The invites I have given out have only ever been given out to trusted friends, I have never given out an invite to someone I didnt know.
The invite trading post completely undermines the integrity of the private bittorrent community.

My 2 cents: I am truly sorry this is what ZP has come to. However, since this place is not a democracy, it probably won’t change. It would appear too late anyways.
In my past experience or observation, ZP has never heeded the sensible recommendations of its members, or even their valued mods, for that matter. Many issues, not just the BT trading thread, which have been ongoing concerns, just go in one ear and out the other. It’s pretty sad when even the Admin gives you bad rep for speaking freely. I’ve been neg repped from better, Jorge. Oh yeah, rep, the most childish of all Jorge’s favored forum features. The majority of members and mods rejected it thread after thread, but here it is, still here. For what, may I ask? Jorge’s special little secret…you will all see, just wait…then up pops the thread, created by no other than, Jorge, himself, “how much rep to give for a good BT trade?” . Forgive me; I was blind not to see the importance of your valued rep system. *sarcasm* (just in case you didn’t get it) The BT trading thread was just the icing or the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
I will still browse and occasionally post here, if I’m still welcome after voicing my opinion, but not as much as previously. I will stick with my fellow file sharers, as it is those people I have come to trust over the years. I have no hard feelings here. I give credit to soul for keeping a brave face through all of this. Paid or unpaid, you're a valuable asset to ZP. Like Mels said, I would buy you a beer anytime.
Hornet, please stay the fuck away from my posts. They do not concern you. You have your precious trading post so please STFU. You are trolling and causing argumetns that need not exist.

"BOO HOO HOO ZP has made a BT invite thread and I don't like it!"
If you don't like it just ignore it - no one is forcing you or Black_Magic to participate in that particular thread (note only ONE thread out of thousands of threads).
So why spoil it for everyone else?
Well maybe I'm not great at debating either and I don't agree with everything that has gone on at ZP but I am not going to try to kill it or bad mouth it to prove a point.
So the power struggle goes on.

Don't worry, I've made my choice not to participate in that thread. That isn't the issue. The fact is the thread will still affect me and others by creating a flood of people into all the private sites, a flood of people with no real connection to other users on the site. Most sites even state quite clearly that there invites are not to be traded. I sincerely hope sites crack down threads like this and ban users found trading invites and ban users who have been invited through trades.
The thread is bad for the community and should not have existed at any point, nor should it continue to exist. My oppinion is that the thread should be closed to prevent any further damage. That's one stop on the road to recovery for ZP.

just quickly on this subject. The idea of 'private communities' is a flawed one when anyone can sign up at any given time by merely checking a box stating that they are at least 13 years of age or older and supplying any email address.
Even your most elitist communities can be gotten into through a minimum amount of social engineering. These so-called 'private trackers' aren't really private all.
Bittorrent also isn't designed for private communication through anonymous transactions. All an mpaa/riaa/Business Software Alliance (BSA) agent has to do is 'pose' as a trusted member of a site by socially engineering himself into a place of trust with other members. Once he's in and connecting its child's play to figure out whose sharing what from looking at a new released torrent and the user who is initial seeder with a 100 percent and just writing down his ip address.
So if 'Anonymous user' releases something on BT. you download the torrent. you look for the person with a hundred percent. copy down the ip. The ip belongs to one who uploaded the torrent as initial seeder. Bang you got him and conveniently enough by clicking on the user's profile page you can download a list of everything he's uploaded as your evidence or proof of infringement.
This is the point Mels_Smiley tried to make but failed to.

Well, I just wanted to acknowledge moonman as a senior member here. I think we ought to organize them together and give them special recognition My question is who are the Senior members? I don't reguard myself as one. Its probably a given that different people will have varying ideas on what and whom is reguarded as such.
So let's hear some feedback from whatever remains of our community here now on zeropaid. Who or whom do you regard as a senior member? top ten or however many you can think of....what makes them 'special'..surely its gotta be something besides a high post count. Tell me the criteria you use in determing what makes a 'senior member' so to speak.
And quickly jorge to address the situation...there was a cry for help not too long ago in this thread..i don't know if you heard it..but I certainly did.
you want to fix things? do this then as soon as you can.
In the forum leaders you need to add potato, evilmegaman, Auggie, and silentscream to the list there so that they will show up as moderators on that page. All four are moderators and have been for quite sometime but do not have that distinction shown when viewing that page.
Also I think Sephiroth should have the title of 'Founder' or be under the 'Founders' section on that page...due to his vast contributions to this site for nearly 7 years.
that's all for now.

Think first before you post. Your posts are not feedbacks to help, you are just arguing on and on....so others will agree with you? Honestly, there are many others here, do you think that will happen?

There's still so much more to be done...but yeah this helps.

::tries to force lid back on can of worms::
I merely pointed out that someone who edited something shouldn't have been able to here. There is no conspiracy. Hilary is not president and Bears have not won.
Bears DID win in 1986 ('85 season) and will HOPEFULLY win in 2007. Let's hope she or jeb does not get the white house in the next election cycle.
As for ZP, you need to get rid of the screw-ups who post crap. The site was more functional before the last re-design. Having the last 20 forum topics on the front page allowed for faster scanning.

Well a whole load of comments here. Well the BT thread though hated by many is something we will just have to learn to ignore[I've gotten used to it cause my mailbox is filled with mail saying someone has posted something in that goddamned thread]. This is an open discussion kerojorando - we are stating our opinions. You are just stirring a nest of trouble - you start arguing with every person who has an opinion which is different than yours.
I haven't been here that long so really can't comment on things a lot.
