No kiddin'
My first was the 2600.... I thought the 5200 was the greatest thing when it came out.:heart
Does anyone remember the name of that big brown thing you hooked to the TV and played Pong with it?

I've got an Atari (my dad's acutally) the funnest game in my opnion was Megamania. I wore out the cartridge I think. It doesn't even start up.
The genesis was pretty cool too, my fav was desert demolition with wile e coyote and road runner. I loved it cause it was so easy and so whenever I was feeling down I would go up and play for hours. I explored every inch of accessible area. And then that wore out too.

SNES is THE thing... zelda III alone could still keep me awake for many a night... not to speak of classics like donkey kong country, mario world, mario kart (all of these being equally addictive on N64), populous II etc etc etc...
to anyone who tried populous III.... is it any good? comparable to black&white?

It was a sad day when I traded in my SNES for a PSX, but now, through the magic of emulation, I can relive all the games that I had before (except now with 16 bit visual filters to make them look bitchin')
The SNES will always have the most fun, playable games. Check them out, they kick ass.
(BTW, ZSNES is too cool)

Every system up until PSX and N64 were all classics in there own right......
Wingnut: Have you tried the eagle eye filter? Makes my games look crisp as hell.....does slow down older systems though.
I can recall being up almost all night playing Zelda (first one) trying to find hideouts/places to buy stuff by burning bushes....ahhhh memorys. Bomberman 1 was great too.
SNES....finding new things in Zelda III
DKC was good too.....3 got a bit lame.
Sega.....Sonic! From 1 on...I was hooked. The music wasn't the best but the beats were good. And the control system was fast.....not like some of todays 'hi tech' games.

Samjam I think you might be talking about a system called fairchild(not sure on the spelling) Im about to try to look through some of my accient video game mags to see if I can find More details. I also agree atari 5200 rocked when It cam out. I got pitfall 2 right away Because it was really the first game to offer more than 4 different screens.lol. Hidden areas and lots of secrets to find make it the father to all mario style side scrollers. But does anyone remeber adventure for atari 2600? A very primitive adventure game but It was the first game where a programer hid Secrets that not even atari knew where in the game. But that was when
games where made by one or two people. My vote for best system though would have to be the nes. It had Alot of quality games that broke new ground in terms of game play and the controllers where a gift from god!! sorrry I rambled on there I just love video games

the snes had good memories with me, i kept on playing zelda 3, then super mario world ruled, along with mario kart, mega man x series was good 1, and 2 were the best, super mario all stars was a real treat for me, i enjoyed playing the old mario games from 1 to 3, and lost levels. the genesis was good also, i loved sonic the hedgehog 3. my first pc game i played was sim city 2000 back in 1995. damn the memories are good.

You basically said everything there is to say! I LOVED my SNES and I have every game I used to own on my computer (traded my SNES for my PS-X).
Ahh there were some great games, Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Paint, Super Mario World, Mario Kart... and alot more.
Oh and SNES 9.X is a little better than ZSNES.. although ZSNES can play games that SNES 9.X can't, such as Illusions Of Gaia. PM me if you cannot find it.

Ah, I voted NES because it was my original favorite and I can remember playing SMB1 for the first time, as well as being enthralled with SMB3. Memories of playing numerous other games on that system, such as Contra, Blaster Master, Zelda (which scared the hell out of me), and a million others I can't remember at the moment made this system my favorite.
When I first read about the SNES and saw screenshots of Super Mario World, I was extremely excited. Unfortunately, I didn't get one until toward the end of the system's life. Nonetheless, I did thoroughly enjoy Super Mario World/All Stars, DKC (although DKC3 is kinda lame as far as characters and originality), Contra 3, Final Fight2, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG (not a hardcore RPG but a pleasant introduction), and a bunch of others...an excellent system though (mode 7 rocked! :-P)
P.S. Anyone see the new Contra? It looks beautiful, nothing like those terrible PSX versions made by a company that was loaned the Contra license.

I guess I'm old, 'cause an "ancient" game system to me would be an Atari 2600 or Intellivision. However, out of the choices presented, the best would have to be the NES. Based just on historical influence alone, the NES was responsible for bringing home video gaming back in a big, big way. If not for the NES, we'd all still be wasting quarters in dirty arcades.
Games-wise, NES had the perfect combination of arcade classics and NES-only epics. . . who can ever forget Contra, Metroid, SMB, Rush'n Attack, Gyromite (game actually sucked, but the robot was cool), Zelda, Bases Loaded, TECMO BOWL!!!, and so many others I'd go nuts listing 'em.
A big shout-out to the emu world. . . thanks to some great programmers, I'm able to enjoy ALL the games from Atari, Coleco, NES, SNES, Genesis, SMS, N64, Neo-Geo, TG-16, Odyssey, MSX, Vectrex, C-64, VIC-freakin'-20, Lynx, and many, many more. Damn, I've got so many CD-R's full of game roms, I could never, ever, ever play them all. Classic gaming heaven!
FYI, the original machine that played Pong was called. . . Pong. It was made by Atari, that's all that it played, and it rocked the f'n house!. I wish I still had the damn thing, but of course mine got lost along the line somewhere. I still get my hopes up at garage sales hoping to score one. . . ::sniff::
http://www.etedeschi.ndirect.co.uk/museum/picts/pong.red.jpg . . . click to see the ORIGINAL Pong!

Anyone ever heard of the ColecoVision system. They are really rare but they rock!!. They play colecovision games but you can get an attachment that lets you play all of the Atari games too! The controller looked like the handle of the fencing sword. I LOVE it! lol

I had to say Atari. My dad had (still has) one and I remember playing space invaders, asteroids, missile command, etc when I was 6 yrs old or so.
SNES would have to be 2nd on my list. I've still got my SNES and still play Mario, Castlevania, etc every now & then.
Later (maybe 1994) I traded this kid a really crappy bike for a 3DO system and used to play a game called Braindead 13. It was a cool game back then.

I couldn't take it anymore.. I dug through the attic and found my pong. It's called APF TV fun. There might be others... but this is one I'm talking about. To my amazement, it even works! :gj
I loved the 5200 when it came out... Defender was the best. It was a big step from 2600. I pcked up a 7800 too. It's in the attic with the others....

What about those little LCD watch games. . . and the Tiger handheld versions of Nintendo games that came out before GameBoy?
Oh, and I fondly recall those 80's Donkey Kong machines that looked like little table-top arcade games, complete with a joystick. Ahh, memories.

LOL...I forgot all about those. The one I had was the pac-man that took for C batteries. My dad played it about 90% of the time. Didn't have it but about a year though. The little joystick wore out on it....

:devil The best video game?....hmmmm maybe the ones never released..........
Just when you thought the next generation console market couldn't get any more crowded, it has been revealed that Hasbro (which now owns Atari) will be throwing its hat into the ring by releasing the Atari 15600 this fall. Hasbro will be officially announcing the system at E3, but for now this is what we know as far as system specifications go: Motorola Dual 84000 Series CPU 16 MB 3DFX designed graphical architecture Built-in Viewmaster 128 MB of system memory Built-in handle for easy transport 4 gig hard drive Woodgrain 56K modem Game select switch Fiber-optic ready 68,000KPS system bus The system uses cartridges, of course, but cartridges that hold DVD's. These DVD's can be stacked within the cartridge (standard cartridges can hold up to 20), giving the Atari 15600 the largest storage capacity of any console yet. The controllers will be rounded pucks that you must attach onto your head, a breakthrough made possible by Atari's "Mindlink" technology. Expected launch titles include Combat: Final Justice, Decathlon, Pigs in Space: The Next Generation, and CyberBlastBam. For more information, check out Hasbro's official Atari 15600 site (which seems to be down at the moment due to being flooded with hits).

LOL @ mojo-ris-in. Man, I'd love for Atari to get back in the ring!
@ Caitlyn Marble -- **Megamania**!! I bought that for my niece, and don't think I ever let her play it! blast those flying bow-ties! lol
What, no mention of **Leisure Vision**??
Oh Coleco. 7 1/2 hours on Turbo with steering wheel and foot pedal. A new "Joystick" mag record (though could never get a decent photo of the screen). And 3 hours through I really needed to go to the bathroom. Really.
Honestly, Intellivision was my fave, though maybe cause my friends had it, not I. But Dungeons and Dragons? You can hear the creatures coming before you see them? dope, before I knew what dope was. (sigh)
Atari 2600 was my first love, though. Remember "Adventure"? The sea-horse looking dragons come bobbing up to you, and you'd better hope your stick figure with sword pointing out is on the correct side of the dragon when you enter... cause you can't turn around! hehehehehehe
and now I insert the bouncing frog :fire

I had the fortune of havin' all the great ones early on. Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800. Then got the NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1 and then PS2. I also suffered through the others. The Saturn, Jaguar, and the foolish add on 32X for Genesis. I have to say my favorite system overall had to be the Sega Genesis just for the original NHL Hockey from EA Sports. Those had to be the best of all time in my view as far as getting a bunch of drunken teenage losers together and playin' for hours. Good times my friends.

Yes! I remeber Genesis hockey! It was so damn revolutionary. Me and my friends had many trash talking games with that one.It was the first sports game that actually felt somewhat like the real game.
Its hard for me to look back and pick one favorite. I've owned almost every system except the new ones. Each old system had games I look back on as favorites but I would say PS1 really blew me away when It cam out and made me chunk my Jaguar in the back closet. Twisted Metal was so much fun! I love EMU!
