I live in The Dominican Republic and I can only get DSL service when the street power is down. Immediately it comes on I lose the signal. Any ideas why? If I turn the power off it does not work only if the grid fails.

Does your computer freeze or BSOD when that happens or is it only
your DSL that fails ? Does this happen to other people where you live ?
It could be noise or current-surges on the power-grid,
most computer-equipment is quite sensitive to that , maybe there is some faulty electrical appliance
in your neighbourhood that acts as a noise-transmitter ? You can buy a electronic device that
filters out the noise , if that is what is happening . or maybe contact the electrical company and
describe the problem ....

The computer does not freeze. The DSL fails within seconds. I have reported the situation to Verizon. They are not interested any more than the power Co. This is the Dominican Republic. there are no other people nearby with internet. What is the device? ETC.ETC.

Try powering your dsl modem from a powerbar that filters AC signal, that or a UPS. Sounds like youre getting a voltage drop on the grid or possibly some harmonics. Crazy dominicans lol :)
