Did anybody else notice the new 240 seconds between posts rule? It used to be a reasonable 60 seconds.

very rarely did Iever see that message "the admin has specified that....." since I usually would only resubmit when I forgot something, and it is easier to edit. So 4 minutes..... maybe some of the posters here will think before they post now.

personally, i think 4 min is maybe a little excessive. i occasionally will go from one thread to another within 4 min and be ready to post, but i suppose if it stops the spam it will be worth it.

Yeah that was done to stop the spamming and people making a stream of a few word or one sentence post right after another. Which something had to be done and im sorry that if it inconviences anyone who hasnt been a part of the problem. Hopefully now that will put an end to it and there wont be anymore problems in the future.

It may help Sephiroth but you'll never get rid of all the "problems". If someone wants to spam, he/she is going to spam(i.e The spammer on the news comments who keeps talking about the evil "Pharmaceutical companies"). I say, if you really wan't to get rid of spam and such, start by getting rid of news comments like those.

Although in theory, 240 seconds is not very much time, I believe that 2.5 minutes to 3 minutes would be effective in curbing the amount of spam on the board without really impacting the spontenaity of the posts.
Even now, as I am typing, I am wondering, "has it been four minutes? maybe I should wait a bit."
So, after the spam has died down, I would suggest that the time between posts is lessened, so as not to dissuade people that are good contributors, yet fast typists, not to post.
(BTW I think that 2 minutes would be perfect in the future)

When i say put an end i didnt actually mean that it will take care of all problems.. Although i didnt say it. It frustrates them so they it makes spamming alot harder for them to do. Which less will occur and its easier to manage.
After a while it could probably be trimmed to 3 mins but for now at least 4 mins isnt that bad a idea.

I think 4 min is way to long, I can switch threads and know what I want to say in the next thread in like 2 min... so I think 60 seconds is to short.. but I think 2 or 2 1/2 minutes would be reasonable... but 4 min is just wait to long.. I will just have to sit there and wait for the 4 min to get over with, that will be a waist of time on the internet though.. oh well some rulez just suck in life :-(

Slashdot has a different method. Your message has to be a certain length (I think), and I know that you can't hit Submit until 60 seconds bringing up the Post Reply page.

well i hope it does cut down on the spam like the pharmeceutical posts... that was annoying. or maybe this only applys to the forums ? well in any case.. maybe people will try to post everything in one reply rather than 5 consecutive posts.

Well, maybe knowing this people will look around at the threads to find which one to post to first. I know I just did, so it worked out ok allowing me to post to this one first. Now I've said my peace.
