Kazaa Lite uses unbelievable amount of cpu time

i'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do this. 60%+ of cpu utilization on a pIII 933mhz! i've turned off the virus scanning option, and the supernode option is disabled by default. what is kazaa doing?

Hey poity, welcome to ZP. That's a curious name, as "POIT" is a slang term in my vocabulary, sometimes modified to say POITY or POITER. Interesting. Anyways, that's an insane amount of CPU power to be using. I'd say maybe try a non-2.0 version of KaZaa (one of the earlier versions). KaZaa's bloated anyways, but it shouldn't be bloating that much.

well I'm not sure if it will help as I haven't messed with that version of kazaalite.
but from past eperiences , it seems that if you use secondary connection it uses less cpu resources.

I have the same problem! Im not even usin it so my comp wont freeze, and i have to let it cool down for five minutes.

Same problem - different conclusion. I called up the Windows Task Manager and found that : -
svchost.exe LOCAL SERVICE,
was the one using my CPU. I ended the process and nothing bad happened.
What I have found since is that I have to keep doing this as it sneaks up again.
My conclusion is that this is a left-over from KaZaA, not KaZaALite. Can it be that the organisations which KaZaA allows to sneak into our computers and use them can still do this after we change over to get away from them?

Anyone know? Anyone know how to stop it?

'svchost.exe' is a totally normal service. On my system, there is two instances of the application running, but they both do different things. They are services that run with your OS, and they usually have a purpose, but you can live without some instances of it.

I have finely tweaked my windows 2000 system services, and now end up with 18 services running at bootup, two of them being svchost.exe

Right click my computer, and go to 'Manage', then go down to 'Services and Applications', then Services.

thats what comes of having a steam powered pc , get yerself a 2.5ghz with 2gb memory then you can run unreal tournament 2003 , kazaa and whatever all together quite happily.:devil
