Hi all,

It seems that Ants is running worser than ever before !

Http Tunneling: I get servers but activate proxy doesn't work anymore.
Search: Sometimes hanging, no results.
IRC channel: After auto-reconnect only white screen om IRC channel.
Download: I tried lot of files, mostly with more sources, but NO download started.

I tried this things on my Linux computer, but I tried it also on another (windows)
computer of another person (other IP, ISP).
Before Ants was working on my computer, and on computer of the other person,
but now it doesn't work on BOTH !

I send Gwren, developer of Ants, a mail but I didn't get a reply from him.

So my question:

Is Ants (and Gwren) still alive ?
Is it better to find another anonymous (Linux) client ?
Will there be ever a good working, NO-BETA version of Ants ? (this year?)

Hi ToNneTje,
I'm sorry not to have many answers to your problems, but since there is not much traffic on here, I feel I can just tell you something about it: I had how you can see some troubles myself running Ants, and it looked without any hope to have it finally working... and just one small stupid thing (upgrading java on my OS) made it work fine from one second to the next...
If, how it looks like, according to what you say, you managed to have Ants running fine in the past, well, it is probably not Ants failure, not to work as well now... So, maybe you should investigate what you have changed since just before that new behaviour... I mean changes on your OS or config or acces to the net... maybe also verify that it has nothing to do with your ISP... true, when I myself had troubles with my ISP filtering P2P, it affected all my other clients, but it didn't even detect Ants which continued to work normally...
but all things being in perpetual changes, they may have find now some more ways to be obnoxious...
anyway good luck !

My Ants mod (kerjodando p2p - hosted on the Dargens website) is nearly beta.

Just need to alpha test for a few more weeks.

Email / PM me if you can help me test it.

It aims to sort out a few of the usability issues with ANts p2p and to make FASTER DOWNLOADS.

Only time will tell if these issues can be fully resolved.

ANts p2p development continues see development blog in my signature.

Information and link about the modded ANts p2p client kerjodando can be found at http://kerjodando.blogspot.com/ .

I have modded ANts p2p to make it a true friend to friend p2p client so it has to be accessed by a website called Dargens (Today's Special in Norwegian).

I will post a link to Dargens when it is ready to test.

I too am committed to ANTs p2p so I have not changed any code in Ants except to make it connect to a tracker to make it truly friend to friend.

At some point in the future I with Gwren's help will try to get the ANts code to work better.

I would like to do a test at some time in the next 7 days at a time yet to be agreed.

Outwardly kerjodando is identical to ANts but it works better as it connects communities sharing similar tastes while obscuring the link between files and user ip.

Email or PM me if you have any queries.

Slyck has just published by private home address in an attempt to spop me from continuing developing kerjodando.

What is it with publishing my Private Home Address?

See post below.

WarezNewz wrote the following that mods has not removed:

If you must know.

I am married with 2 kids.

I work full time for the British Red Cross Society a non profit organisation - If haven't got the sack already.

Kerjodando is open source project I do in my spare time.

All of this is listed in my blog http://kerjodando.blogspot.com/

So why the attack?

I have made about one post per week - how is that spamming?

Where does Slyck.com's funding come from?

Is it just google ads or is it from big media?

See this article http://p2pnet.net/story/10931

Anonymous Coward: Seems to me your troubles stem more from your inability to provide a product that has value, or be a journalist and your unwillingness to separate your "journalism" from your own biases and advertisers - that's my opinion.

Jon Newton: Your opinion? Who are you? What's your email address? Where do you live? Who do you work for?

Anonymous Coward: Slyck seems to be able to support itself.

Jon Newton: And more power to it. But what has Slyck to do with the price of eggs?

Anonymous Coward: Real journalists comply with the ethical code below - do you?

.
.
.
Anonymous Coward: What does the survival of Slyck tell you about honesty, disclosure and market forces?

Jon Newton: Again, why drag Slyck into this? But since you have, neither Tom nor Ray seem to feel the need to go into detail on whom, or from where, they get their funding. And why should they? It's their business and no one else's. But it doesn't matter because this is an absurd non-question. Slyck's survival, or otherwise, has absolutely nothing to do with "honesty, disclosure and market forces," or with p2pnet.

Anonymous Coward: I am really interested to receive your comments on how the disclosures in your article/sob story above allow you to claim compliance with the Canadian journalism code of ethics:

Jon Newton: I never have, and don't now, claim compliance with the Canadian journalism code of ethics. As to my comments on it:

Beware of Slyck if you believe in anonymous transactions on the Internet.
