(Win XP Home SP2)
Recently, after installing some MS updates It suddenly became neccessary to logon when booting up. Usually there is no logon box, I tried deleting user accounts (except administrator), and even tried running "control userpasswords2" and changing settings there - but that just got me into trouble and couldn't logon at all and would only work in safe mode, and had to re-install windows. Is this a particular update which I could avoid, or is there a known fix for this does anyone know?
I have only limited capabilities concerning PC's, I ain't no geek. Many thanks, - Jay

That usually happens when you install the ip update and it installs another user, but you've deleted all those users, so now I'm not sure what's happening. Was the guest account turned on?

I can't remember, I'm sure I did delete the guest acc. Whats this IP update so I know not to install it again, Do you know the KB number? - Or is there something I can do to remove the logon box if it did happen again.
Thanks very much, I appreciate your help.

it's the Microsoft .NET framework, sorry. It adds a .NET account to the users. I don't even know why they add it.

In the last couple of weeks there have been at least two programs I've installed which have required these dotnetfx 1.1 or 2.0 updates to be installed, I can't remember what they were now, Its probably another of Microsoft's sneaky spy apps, I'd like to try another OS like Linux. I tried to see the MS "hidden files" but can't get this PC to boot to command prompt from F8 - theres no option available, but I'm working on it !
Anyway, thats another story... you've been a big help - now I know what to avoid. Big thanks, - Jay.
