Since there are still files to be had, it's not much of a concern.

Theres nothing more that you can do but deal with them, its not worth the effort to try to get them to change and cutting the connection isnt really going to teach them anything, but make them upset. I guess what I am trying to say is that some peopel dont understand this sort of community.

thats an interesting analogy... i have always been able to get the files i want, but then i am always searching on a fast connection. the bottom line with winmx is this: a lot of patience, good bandwidth, and a decent share are all essential, but if you are looking for files with nothing to offer in return then people will not be willing to share. at least thats the case in most of the chat rooms if you dont have friends. but as for me, every time i lose all my data in a reformat or something to that effect, i have ALWAYS been able to get ALL of my files back from MX, regardless of friends and this whole "Sharing/Trading" spoof.

Trading is where someone has something you want and you have something to "Trade" for it. (???did'nt you know that¿¿¿)

all it takes is a little skill with your searches, downloading, and finding sources. just yesterday i downloaded an album with nothing to offer in return and it finished with a speed of 200k.

but again, if patience, skill, and perservereance are not your highest qualities, take DigitalJunkie's advice and move to another network where things are "Easier". Need a definition?

This is why I use BT, no hassles and the BT protocol itself, where more >UL speed = >DL speed, plus SHARE RATIOs filtering out the worst case leechers makes for a very copasetic P2P experience.....

If you want to trade on winmx its good to join a chat room that deals with whatever kind of things you like to download. Its not all about trading but trading can be very fun. I use to love to talk to people for hours about subjects I like while trading. This is sadly missing from todays programs like BT where most people are just greedy. P2P community is all but dead as you may can tell by how dead P2P forums are lately.

The big P2P killer is streaming media. Who wants to bother with letters and lawsuits when you can just click and watch movies and TV shows now. No longer do you have to wait for your download to finish. Its awesome! See the list in my sig for all the new movies and TV show you could want!

I don't waste my time worrying about it.

Sure, I could fall on the floor and kick my feet and cry wah, wah, wah, but that's not very dignified and usually makes my feet hurt. And my kids kind of freak out when I do that.

It wouldn't do much good anyway, so I don't worry about it. But that's just me.

Winmx has never had a good search algorithm, in fact it is absolutely horrid. You can wait 10 hours in queue for some rare file behind 27 other people and have probably 27 other people in queue behind you, but when you finally get the rare file, those 27 behind you stay in queue behind the same poor bastard you got the file from. Leave your computer on for two days and I guarantee no one will ever download that same file from you and still the first bastard has a 27 man queue.

Bittorent, which by no means reigns supreme, at least does not have this problem. Hell, people begin downloading the same file from you before you even are done downloading yourself. A powerful P2P agent if you must go that route.

Winmx only savior came from the chat rooms. And until today I didn't even realize Winmx was still even around.

But if you get the file and share, then thats one or more ppl that could have the file and then you would have less of a queue. but then again, i am seriously thinking of a new little proggie that is out that allows you to encrypt your files and then share them securely without prying eyes. (you would then ascertain weather or not the person(s) that are dl'ing from you are trustworthy and send them the encryption key or a password) i have been thinking of joining, but i dunno. i already use too many programs and id like to find the ONE that works really good.

they way thet media is used today is changing a lot. we will not always be able to so readily download anymore because i believe that there are some new ways for people to get the media that they want thjat could threaten the P2P community in a big way. The recording industry is realizing that if they do not adapt, they will be over-run. there are too many people out there that belong to some sort of P2P that it is only a waste of time to hunt them down and sue them. not to mention that they are not improving their revenues in relation to all the money they have lost. it actually may cost them more to hunt the people, than to join them or adapt to them.
