I know this nat error has probably been asked numerous times, but I can't seem to correct the problem reading any instructions so far on the Web. I've looked at plenty threads on this forum already as well as many others. So, if you could just bear with me, I'd appreciate it. So, I've recently began downloading torrents using Azureus (the latest version). I didn't know I had a NAT problem until a day ago. My download speed goes from 3 kb/s up to 19 kb/s. It fluctuates a lot, but it mostly stays under 10 kb/s. When it goes up to about 26, it drops rapidly down to 10 again. I've tried everything from disabling my Zone Alarm and my XP firewall. I think I'm currently using XP Service Pack 2. I configured my firewall to accept ports 6881-6889 TCP and UDP. I also applied the same configurations to my DSL wirespeed modem when I typed in the "192.168.1.#" in the address bar. I've read that those ports are common and often blacklisted or blocked from trackers. So, I've made my port 5 digits. Right now it's 54565. I used the Nat/firewall tester on Azureus and it says it's "OK", but my health smiley is yellow. I also looked at my peers and it says I'm only getting through to local connections. I don't know how to enable remote connections?? I think if I solved that problem my download speed will be higher. Could anyone help me with this?? I've read almost 10-20 different threads on NAT errors and I can't seem to be able to do anything to fix my slow download speed! I don't know if this additional information helps, but when I go to my network connections to do the right clicking on properties, my local connection is under the category "LAN or Highspeed".
I hope this is enough information for someone to help me with!

Paragraph(s) are marvelous.
Who says you have a NAT error? Did you get a big popup stating you have a NAT error? A yellow health smiley doesnt always mean the problem is with you.
Although you may actually have a DOUBLE NAT problem!

Do other P2P apps work for you?
Where do you live? Who is your ISP?
Are you on any university or college property?
Is there any other PC on your network where Azureus works?
Are you using any other 3rd party apps to block IP addresses?
What version of Java do you have? Uninstall it and then reinstall v1.5
What firewall do you use? Is the XP firewall turned on\off?
Make sure that the port forward rule on your router is enabled for YOUR IP ADDRESS.
If you are 192.168.15.3, and the rule is set for 192.168.15.2, then you're SOL.
All of this checks out? http://www.portforward.com/cportsnotes/azureus/azureus22.htm
If you dont have a listening port enabled, you will get marginal results.
==Yellow Smileys== Smiley faces provide info on your torrents. The yellow smiley indicates that while your system can initiate connections with other peers (known as local connections, or L in the torrent's "Details" tab), you cannot receive connections initiated from other peers (known as remote connections, or R). This is almost certainly caused by incorrectly forwarded ports from your router or firewall. You can see the L's and R's in the Details tab of your individual torrent. If you see only L's, you probably have a Port Forwarding problem. Green smileys mean that you have both L and R connections to peers and are connected to the tracker. For more information on what every smiley means, click Help > About Health.
There are other possible causes for a yellow smiley. If you see a green smiley or have seen one with the same router/firewall configuration, then port forwarding may not be the culprit. Run the Tools > NAT/Firewall test.
==Ports== When you connect to the internet, there are different channels that data travel by. Computers usually handle this perfectly in the background via ports, identified by numbers. For example, MSN protocol usually uses ports 6891-6900. Please see PortIsBlacklisted (http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/PortIsBlacklisted) now for which ports to use. Check out Tantalo (http://ports.tantalo.net/) or Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_well-known_ports_(computing)) to find out more about ports.
Azureus listens to one port for torrents and another for the embedded tracker. Two protocols, TCP and UDP, use the same port, unless specified otherwise. Thus, you need to forward one listening port for Azureus and tick both the TCP and the UDP boxes, or make an extra rule, one for each protocol.
The only time you will notice the ports is when they are closed; no data is transmitted and you get error messages like "NAT Error." This usually happen because of firewalls and routers.
