ok this is killing me. a friend of mine brought his pc by for maintenance. 1.8ghz 512mb ram windows xp professional.

what is did was formate the drive becuase it was a compaq machine and loaded with crap. i reinstaled windows no probs there. system was booting fine, ran windows update, installed programs ect ect. i had this machine for three days and it ran fine, no probs. he comes to pick it up the other day and takes it home. soon after i get a call. pc not booting.

i tell him to try to boot to safe mode and it goes into safe mode no prob but when he lets it boot straight into windows it goes to the windows xp screen then to a black screen and does nothing.

in safe mode i checked for drivers conflicts there were none. this doesnt make any sense. the only diference from being at my house to his house is the keyboard, mouse and monitor used thats it. im all outta ideas here any help would be apreciated.
