i use sygate firewall pro it keeps saying people are scanning my computer

You're not going to stop it cause people and malicious software floating around out there are going to scan ip blocks for open ports etc and there is nothing you can really do. The best you can hope for is set your firewall not to warn you everytime and stealth your ports so nothing showsup in those scans. If you put yourself behind a NAT router none of those scans will every reach your machine.

I'd use Peer Guardian as well..........I always use it in tandem with my trusty firewall

No one is scanning your pc. If you go to certain sites, some sites will filter some webpages or wont let ads in. And if your using p2p, some people are trying to download from you and its registering as scanning. But no one would scan your pc.

Maybe its "aliens," just wrap an old-fashioned aluminum hat around your PC...... :P

If you are behind a router it might not be set up to block traffic correctly. You can have a scan done to see which ports are open at Gibson Research Corp using their Shields UP!! scan at: http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2
