How good is this site? Is it worth my time trying to track down an invite? I currently use torrentleech, and demonoid, and most of the time the quality is good on TV shows. My main questions are is it really HD quality, How much larger is a file for say a half hour show in HD than the same half hour show in non-hd, I have HD through digital cable, and would like to move to dish are there a lot more shows available for dl than what I am getting allready?
I am using a modded xbox as my media center as well. Is it even possible to dl a hd movie and get hd quality through the xbox?
sorry for the long post. tia

By 2009, standard TV broadcastings will go dark as they will be replace by HD broadcastings so more new TV shows will be recorded in HD format. But until then, your digital cable service would be better than switching to satellite service. Currently I have DirecTV satellite service, but I also uses ATSC Tuner for free local off-the-air HD broadcasts in addition to DirectTV. But, my advice to you is to stick with digital cable service for now!

The thing that is bugging me about digital cable is the picture is compressed. I see way too much pixelation at different times, and no it is not my TV. My dad has Direct TV and there is little to no compression that I can see. I need to get an antenna fo the over the air stuff.
What I really need to know is does hdbits.org offer anything more than I can be DV'ring?

Currently DirectTV uses two satellites, but it still has to brocadcast in both standard & HD formats as more TV stations begin to broadcast in HD format. It will get more & more crowded! Depends on where you live, in a large city with lots of local stations, getting an in-door antenna & ATSC tuner for free local digital & HD broadcasts maybe worth it.

I just need an antenna my TV as the tuner built in. I will try that first.
thanks again.

Most HD tv's will have two receivers inside. One for rabbit ears for local HD broadcast, the other is for hd dish or cable. I think people who record tv shows to put on the internet was not using a HD recorder but now may be. So it can be true HD if uncompressed and played in a HD player or viewed on your PC.

Stay away from hdbits.org unless you want to donate money, cuz thats the only way youll ever have a 1:1 ratio.
I truly suspect they do something to tilt the stats - every movie has like 20 seeders, and ONE leecher! Wanna guess how fucking long it takes to raise a ratio with a 13Gb movie with those figures?

Been a member for about 2 weeks and your ratio can be blitzed in one night.
(I am looking at you Battlestar Galactica in HD)
I have downloaded over 100Gb but only uploaded 30Gb - must resist to download anymore and just keep seeding for a couple of weeks.
the great one

Current broadband connections make downloading big files like that a pain in the ass when it comes to seeding stuff back and keeping a good ratio(download speed is way faster than upload speed).Maybe in a few years it will be better, but for now..........

Thanks for the info. I guess that is why the invites are so scarce. I can imagine how hard it is to keep a good ratio. :(
I love my HD though.

I know what you mean about digital cable. Ive been very disapointed. I see halos and pixies all the time. The weather gets rough and it gets really bad. I liked analog better for cable. Most people will not pay attention to this but I'm a real anal retentive geek about this stuff.

I know what you mean. Bought a top of the line 60 inch TV, and it looks like I am watching burnt dvd's with all of the compression some times. Hence my need for the hdbits.org info/invite.

So are you guys using the files on just your computer or is there an easy way to get the HD files to your TV?

I dont know for certain, and I honestly dont give two shits. After 12 years of aliases . . . I'm content to piss people off with just this one. Or maybe I will sign up as Larry Moe and Curly and just leech the shit out of them.

Due to the file size, there isnt any stand alone player or recordable media, so you have to stream to a set top device, or output from your video card.

I have a networked XViD player, I'm wondering if these will work for it via stream. Doesn't look like I'll be able to use the .mkv or .ts stuff right? Just the XViD encodes?
I suppose there's only one real way to find out.

Off hand im doubting that the XviD player will decompress the .ts stream . . but youre correct in the over all schema.
Also . . . when you launch Cyberlink Power DVD etc and play a HD movie, right click and "Show Info". You will see the bit rate climb to as high as 20mbs, which may tax your LAN.
I have the Victorias Secrets Christmas Show in HD . . . it's everything I imagined heaven to be.

So I just snatched my 1st 720p XViD from hdbits, and although it plays in WMP player with no problem, my networked player puked on it.
I then burnt it to DVD in native format as a data file, and tried it on my Philips DivX/XViD player, and it gave the message RESO NOT SUPPORTED.
So you are right, I don't think there's any standalone player that can support HD rips, so I'm stuck with trying to hook my laptop to my HD set. Too bad my HD set doesn't have a VGA input though, so wtf? Do I have to buy a converter box or something?
To, me, HD isn't worth downloading it unless I can watch it on my plasma.

These days they have certified DivX DVD players with HD Upconverter that support higher resolutions, so you may also want to upgrade your DivX DVD Player.
cjules13
October 20th, 2006, 02:54 PM
No, that's still unacceptable. That means it only handles 480p internally like any other DVD or DivX player, and uses interpolation to give higher resolution. Any up-converting player is still incapable of handling resolutions higher than 480p.
Even right now if you play a regular DVD in an up-converting DVD player, you are not getting hidef. It may look a little better than not using up-converting, but no more REAL information is being used. You can never get better than the source. DVDs are 480p and that's that.
This 720p rip I got however does contain more information and is true hidef. I need a player than can output that in all it's glory to my TV. Right now the only object capable of that I think is a laptop, using VGA out. I don't have DVI out (I wish I did because I think that would work too) and I don't have HDMI out either.... not too sure how many video cards have that anyway.
HDDVD and Blu-Ray players also output full 720p (1080p actually) to TV screens, as well as HD antennas (720p and 1080i) and cable boxes (also 720p and 1080i).
But I'm agreeing with Krell that no standalone player can handle 720p XViD or hidef MPEG2 streams or x264 for that matter.
So how do people do this? Laptop DVI output? Or VGA converter?

Ok dudes, here's the proposal to play HD files on the HD set. Since my laptop doesn't have DVI out, I'm stuck with only VGA out. My HD set doesn't have VGA in, but I have an unused HDMI port. So here's a VGA to HDMI converter:
http://www.acsoutlet.com/VGAHD2HDMI-Standard.aspx (http://www.acsoutlet.com/VGAHD2HDMI-Standard.aspx)
Converts VGA to HDMI.
All the component inputs are already used on my set so I don't want to use component either.
Secondly, I'm looking at this usb sound card:
http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/audioadv/micro/ (http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/audioadv/micro/)
I'll connect the optical out to my home theater to deliver the sound.
So I'm looking for advice on this setup... I'm the most worried about the VGA to HDMI box. I hope I don't lose any noticeable amount of quality through that. Secondly, I'm worried about any synch issues between video and sound. Video goes out VGA and through the box to the TV. Sounds goes out USB, convert to optical, and to the home theater for sound. I hope there's not too much lag on these paths!
If this works out it'll be great because it will be format independent. I could play x264, XViD, or MPEG2 since the laptop plays everything.

Got my VGA to HDMI adapter. I highly recommend it.
This thing owns. Got the HDBits content, x264, XViD, MPEG2, whatever all playing in HD glory on the plasma. 5.1 surround and everything.
I just found my new favorite site.
