My combination is Norton 2005 Internet Suite (firewall and anti-virus included), Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot. Scanning is noisy and tedious, but I fell pray to malware without a firewall.

IMHO, Norton AV is a joke, Id get AVG Free edition, its way better then norton and isnt a system resource hog.

Realtime protection:

Anti-Virus: Nod32 "smallest on size and resources" the all time winner at Virus Bulletin 100% awards.
Firewall: Sygate Pro "maybe discontinued but still my favorite"
ProcessGuard: Notifies and block unauthorized process and dll files. (added this program after I got infected with that NSIS Malware)
Anti-Spyware: SpySweeper 4.5 "has the best protection, but versions 5+ suck"
Host Protection: HostsMan "blocks bad websites, online ads, malware"

Other protection for scanning:

Anti-Spyware: Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware SE, SpywareBlaster, Windows Defender.

It usually takes up to 3 or more Anti-Spyware products to clean up everything.

Sygate is discontinued, was purchased by Symantec and shutdown.

Antivirus: Nod32 is the best by far, I have used most major antivirus programs.
Firewall: I have yet to find a decent one, Zonealarm does the job but is very heavy on system resources.
Ad-Aware: Excellent for killing spyware.
Search & Destroy Spybot: Also very good for killing spyware.

Well this has been interesting. I find zone alarm nagging, but thorough. Time for an update. What's up with the notification area? Everything runs in there now, even virus killers and modem software. Surely you shouldn't be notified of the fact you have lots of software and hardware, everybody has. Oh must go I've been notified it's time to get to the point, by my pedantic notifier.

Norton 2005 Internet Security.
Spybot.
Ad-aware
Nod32 running in tandem now.

Still want Ewido anti spyware.
