I'm using uTorrent 6 and I have read around that it is a good idea to disable Windows Firewall when using utorrent.

Anyone think this is a good idea? My UL speeds have also been quite slow ever since i switched to SP2 so what should I do?

Just add the port you use (default 6886) to the XP Firewall, under TCP and UDP as well as utorrent.exe.

You need to patch TCPIP.SYS to increase unfinished connections... slow speeds are a result of that, not the firewall.

If you don't have a hardware router with a fitrewall or another firewall enabled, you always keep Windows Firewall on. You can unblock any program you want and have no problems with connections.

If you don't have any firewalls enabled then you're just asking for security problems like trojans, worms, identity theift, hackers, passwords to websites getting hacked. In fact all info on your pc can be displayed by malwares and hackers.

A good friend of mine said that it's pretty decent. I trust him (cpugeniusmv). He's never steered me in the wrong direction.

I don't use Windows firewall as it only blocks traffic one way

Try this one (Last freewre version. Symantec bought the rights after this so it's not supported or updatable but still a lot better than the windows one and very easy to use.

Same deal just add the .exe to exceptions and the listening port one rule for TCP and one for UDP of course both incoming and outgoing

note: Various windows services will start popping up at first. Just allow if you want (the windows one does not even give you this option ;) ) and check the never ask again

A firewall is not just to keep the bad guys from getting IN, it is mainly to keep your apps from talking OUT! ESP true if you use P2P to get software with key gens etc.

NEVER let your apps talk out to the internet unless there's a perfectly good reason, such as antivirus updates.

A router attached to a cable modem will give you some protection from external sources, but you still need a software firewall to keep your OS and apps locked down.

Sygate has a very effective free firewall.

open the port your torrent client uses on your router abnd add it to the firewall allowed section
