My money is in my pocket and will STAY there! It sure will not be shelling out for this piece of garbage that has 12 different kinds of DRM! Why would I pay for an OS that wants to make my computer so locked down I can't do anything with it? I'll pass.

I do not have a desire to even try out a beta version. Even if M$ sent me a free copy I would probably use it for a coaster. I am not switching from XP until I am forced to...or until something better comes along.

Hmm...The upgrade is cheaper? I wonder if you can buy the upgrade version and install it fresh on a new drive? Meaning, the 98 upgrade was actually the fullversion and you did not have to have a drive already loaded with a previous version, all you needed was something like a Disk 1 of Win 3.1, 95, etc. for the software to know that you owned a previous version of windows. I think I'll just wait 'till one of my works customers wants a copy and I'll get my free copy that way to play with.

Probably a week. Maybe two. Honestly XP's just fine. I'll probably wait until Vista sp1 has been fully cracked before I switch. Get some of the bugs out first.

It may take me up to a year and half after it comes out to even think about switching. Wait for some of my fav apps to migrate over, get the bugs out, find out how to disable some of the default crap, maybe a lighter version of it that doesnt bundle stupid things on it.

Couldn't Agree More. Actually, I don't plan to download it - everyone (even PC fanatics like myself) can see

that Vista is just a waste of time and money.

I would have really liked it if they had of kept in the improvements they were going to make, such as the new Win FS file system and other improvements to the core....but those were cut out early and my intrest in it declined..... along with those improvements being axed because of a release schedule. Now it seems like a glorified win xp with 12 different kinds of DRM.

Mabye it will have some improvements, but with all the junk it is going to have in it, it just seems to be not worth the effort to find out.

And to think I used to be really excited when a new version of windows came out, but with the release of xp and now Vista...it seems that Microsoft is more determined than ever to try to tell people what they can and cannot do with their computers and how much control they actually have. I hope for that reason alone that people tell Microsoft what they can do with their DRM in the lawsuits that will come. And I really believe that lawsuits will start against Microsoft once people find out what they are 'locked out" of.

Well i will stick to xp pro, unless there are some great games that only work on vista, then i will just dual boot to play and back to xp for everything else.

i have actually experienced some hype for vista from some of my customers. one of which claimed he was a gamer, but i have my doubts. the sad thing is that its going to sell. not by XP portions, but well enough that MS isnt going to say they wasted their time on this like they did.

and 5 diferent versions!?! WTF! thats going to confuse grandma so much. hell, *im* not even clear what the real advantages were with XP pro over XP home.

From what i hear dx10 wont help you unless you have a new video card that supports it

That is probably the best solution if they only make games for that OS. That way, you can play your favorite game and still control your computer.

the price for the upgrade isn't too bad,but I might wait a while before buying it.

When video games start taking advantage of DX10, that's probably when I'll pick up my copy.

There's always apple. It's looking better and better. I wonder how much all the DRM will boost apple's sales. I think that's my next computer purchase.

I might try it out if I can get my hands on a "copy" that costs <.01...but if I don't like it, I'll 86 it and go to XP. I want to see if it can take advantage of my new power house dual core 64 bit computer with 2 gigs of RAM.

Actually the only computers I've ever seen have random shut downs is my old Gateway. I used to be as anti apple as anyone, but I've honestly just had it with Windows, and the freakin' Apple OS is PIMP. The new ones are so nice, graphically and stability speaking, Apple is literally 10 years ahead of Microsoft. You've gotta see one to believe it.

When it comes down to either apple or windows i guess it depends on what you plan to use your pc for, i think if its games then you kind of stuck with windows, but i hear apple is good for video and animation

Oh my gosh, talk about years ahead. Apple's Final Cut was better than even Adobe Premiere is now 5 years ago. My friend bought an old iMac in 1999 and it came with iMovie, even that old basic iMovie was better than most programs are now as far as I'm concerned. So easy and powerful. My friend has a new iMac and graphicallly you could swear you're wearing 3d glasses, everything is gorgeous. Everything is so easy and convenient and user friendly. I know that sounds gay, but when you see all the stuff you can do with it and how easy and cool it is, I think anyone would be impressed compared to Crapdows X Crap.

No one realizes just how far behind and non competitive windows is until you check out the competition. Computers are capable of way more than Windows XP, I hope Vista will take advantage of it. For example, I RARELY use more than 3-5% of my processor and probably 10% of my RAM, I'd rather have something take advantage of it, and if you are one of those guys that worries about "ohh, the graphics take up too much resources"...walk up the stairs of your moms basement, get a job, and upgrade your computer, spend a few hundred bucks and get something more powerful than your 5 year old P4.
