Gnarls Barkley has now reached platinum status in the United States for the album St. Elsewhere, an accomplishment that follows continued strength in several worldwide markets. The group blazed onto the scene with "Crazy," a splash of originality that instantly captivated British fans. The track topped the UK singles chart in March based on downloads alone, a first. Several weeks later, the song entered the US-based chart, though the results were far less impressive initially. Stateside, the track debuted in the 90s, though "Crazy" has been nestled at number 2 for several weeks.

Now, the platinum performance continues the excitement, though the album took well over three months to reach the threshold. That is part of a slower build-up for the group, oftentimes the best way to grow. Aside from album sales, Gnarls Barkley has the strongest-selling digital download of the summer in the US, where total downloads are now nearing 900,000. Part of that strength comes from a multi-format appeal, and “Crazy” has gained spins across Top 40, Triple A, Hot AC, Alternative, AC, Urban, Dance and Rhythmic stations. The album was released through Downtown/Atlantic.
