I was thinking perhaps we should list off a few essential P2P apps for users to have. As far as Divx, CD burning/copying, mp3 playing, and other programs any good nerd should have. As far as Divx goes I have the standard codecs with global divx player and avi chop to split my movies to burn. For mp3 playing I use Winamp with the metrix skin. For CD Burning I use easy cd creator and CD clone. I would also recommend Serials 2000 for any with lots of stuff on their computer(s). I'm not asking for this to be flamebait but any input you guys and girls have would be awesome.

Just a thought, but it might be worth including the likes of The Cleaner and Ad-Aware, so that we can help newbies protect themselves.

I like MP3-Info Extension 3.2 first off. It is a shell extension program. When your in windows explorer it changes the icon of your mp3's to a bit rate icon and when you place the arrow over the mp3 file it shows you the id3 tag nfo. very cool FREE program.
As for ripping I am tossed up. I have tried so many. I'll look here to see what everyone likes.
For playing I like CoolPlayer 1.0b
very small file and no real install. Just put the coolplayer.exe file where you want it. It will easily fit on a floppy. It has a good playlist maker and skins. Download is only 150K
as for ripping once again I am undecided. I am using recordnow max at the moment.
For burning I am using once again recordnow max

I prefer to use the CD N' Go Suite to create/rip mp3's. For copy protected CD's there is FreeRipMP3.

For burning you should have Ahead Nero. Thata all I use beside BlindRead\Write which I use for ISO's and stuff. But for the MP3 ripper I suggest Exact Addio copy. It is small and has a killer song adn albem Database and you can add your own or point to another.
Try it its free

The Cleaner protects you from Trojan Horses. Personally, I think you should just get a full featured Anti-Virus Suite instead.
And for ripping, cdex (http://www.cdex.n3.net ) is one of the best apps out there.

As far as burning and ripping, foreverboard nailed it, nero to burn and EAC to rip. EAC is the absolute best, and in conjunction with the LAME.EXE encoder it cant be beat.
For people downloading movies, divfix is an indispensible tool, it can re-index a corrupt or incomplete file for viewing. It can also strip the index. And it does both tasks in a very timely manner.
Tmpeg for converting Avis to MPGs. VirtualDub for a whole variety of touchup and capturing needs. Most if not all of these can be found at
vcdhelp (http://www.vcdhelp.com)
and how can i mention useful tools and not mention trillian (http://trillian.cc) you can access AIM,Y!, MSN,ICQ and IRC all through 1 convinient client that doesnt hog up resources. And there are some pretty cool skins too.
Also use Opera 6.02 beta for a web browser, and Eudora for email. I use a m$ os (that I didnt pay for of course tnx for win xp corp) but I dont have to use their browser or email client. Actually I dont think ive paid for a os since win 3.11, and I feel like i was ripped off with it.
