I know, your probably thinking why in the holy hell does he want to do that? I want to extend the life of my Intel Pentium 4 - 2.93ghz processor and also its making the system fan run at such a high speed that its generating too much noise.

in this case, i think you need to change your fan into a new one

I was hoping there was a program that could adjust the speed of my processor or something. I really don't want to buy another fan.

hmm ironic that you ask for something like that, I was just in the middle of getting rid of it (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/windows/t-amd-64-3500-at-984-mhz-38927.html). The only thing I'm aware of is Quiet'n'Cool technology (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_9487%5E10272,00.html) which is more than likely only compatible with AMD processors.

Intel and AMD like to copy each other a lot and reword so-called "innovative" ideas so they can market them as original.. I'm sure Intel has something, or is working on it. The only thing I found somewhat similar, but probably not what you need, is called SpeedStep (http://www.intel.com/support/processors/mobile/pentiumiii/sb/CS-007509.htm).. but it's only for mobile processors.

BTW Moonman, that was an awesome tip, I switched to always on and now my CPU speed and program responce times are lightning fast. Its really amazing. When I click a program its starts instantly. All lag time is history. Im keeping an eye on the heat now to see if that will become a problem but so far its all good.

It wouldn't hurt to check the power options in the control panel and see if you can change it to limit your CPU. Mine was set to "Home Office/Desktop" which really made my PC seem so 2001. Im totally geeked out now!

Seems like I remember a setting on my mobo bios to slow down my CPU. Maybe you could check soemthing like that out.

Thanks so much for the great responses. My power options don't let me tweak any of my processor settings and a quick search on google didn't reveal any promising results for programs that specificaly target the processor speed on my Pentium 4.

I am going to check out the system BIOS settings right now.
