Well you certainly don't need another one.

It's simply having trouble finding where on your hard drive to look. A fresh install of Windows would set you free, but you'll lose everything.

Go to this page (http://www.techtips4u.com/kb/sw/SW00014.htm) and follow the directions. If it works you won't lose anything.

Just in case someone else has this problem....

If you get an error that reads, "Unmountable Boot Volume". This is probably because your boot.ini file is screwey..

So, don't panic, try this....

You can boot to the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows

If for some reason that don't work for you, you can boot to the recovery console like above and...
Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
This will take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

If your system does not have a seperate XP CD like Compaq and HP. You can download the Windows XP boot disk from the net, just Google "XP Boot disc". Depending on your system needs, the boot disk can be burned onto floppies or disk

If you are asked for the location of autochk.exe, it is located in C:\WINDOWS\system32. If you need a copy of the file, again - just Google it.

There are also tools out there that can do much of this for you. Hiren's CD is one that has a lot of DOS tools. I keep that around myself.
