View Full Version : Ask a MOD
Jared Moya
July 31st, 2006, 08:20 AM
Upon the urging of mfgbypooter, decided to start this "Ask a MOD" thread, whereby the MODs can make a brief introduction of themsleves, if they so desire, and also create a place whereby people, the NOOBs in particular, can ask a question, make a complaint, get some feedback, etc.
I think it perhaps could be a daunting task for people to find out just how to get a hold of somebody running things around here.
I could see how a complaint, or a question for instance, could go unheeded around here simply because one doesn't know who to talk to or how to go about it. It's only after a NOOB bumps into a MOD on accident sometimes that they find out who to talk to.
So on this note, consider the "Ask a MOD" thread open for business, and also, if you feel that your needs around here are going unmet, feel free to drop me a PM at anytime.

Exactly as Potato said, as if anything you've helped in part to change things so that current and future users will find things that much more convenient and accesible around here. Nothing worse than when everybody sees something's that's broken and either ignore or refuse to fix it.

and isnt there any facility to post images?
Some parts of the forum allow for direct image embedding via URL links (CLICK HERE FOR EXAMPLE) (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/news-events/t-1200-year-old-prayer-book-discovered-in-bog-38662.html#post437263), like the news section for instance, yet others do not, such as the Lounge. Why this is so is unclear, will find out though.
However, in the meantime you can uplaod photo attachments to your replies by selecting the "GO Advance" tab, and then scrolling down to where it says "Manage Attachments." You can then upload an image which will appear ass a thumbnail beneath your reply for users to select and view.

Yes true, but the alternative is to leave the NOOBS high and dry with their questions as they try to figure out who to talk to, instead resorting to the creation of the proverbial "Help Me" Lounge thread. At least this way they can have a place to seek out a helping hand.

As my completely unoriginal custom user title states, I am a super mod here. Not super as in fabulous, but super as in insanely powerful. Deleting spam and perusing pointless threads at incredible speeds are my high points.
I attempt to sign in here daily and normally show up between 6 and 11 pm PST, M-Sa and early and late Sundays. I am available for PMs any time and will do appointments if necessary. Just give me 24 hours notice.
I feel I'm pretty easy to get along with and fair when it comes to SWINGING DOWN THE CUDGEL OF JUSTICE AGAINST ANY WRONGDOERS!!!...::shakes head:.. Where was I? Oh..
It is a pleasure "working" here. I look forward to helping out all that I can and keeping this portal the premiere P2P Forum that it is.

Newbies shouldn't be shaking in their boots due to the fact that when I am in a bad mood I merely resist responding to a newbie question. It's a good tactic and keeps me from scaring people away.

Don't make 20+ posts in a row.
Don't whine about rep. It's not important.
But it is Important. You put these rules in place here so folks will be a part of your community. So folks wil participate in discussion.
You wanted to make sure tha scammers are not taking advantage of your legatimate users when doing invite trading.
Here I come, I have excellent standing in the private tracker sites I use cuz I sit on a 80 Megabit connection, and I want ot expand out alittle getting afew ore private trackers under my belt, I come to zeropaid.
I am trying to jump through your hoops, I post LEGATIMATE post in your Lounge forums looking to A. bump my posts and B. be a member of your onlnie community.
I get SLAPPED down for doing that.
Now I can never trade here cuz you gave me some super negative rep points.
yeah, i t does matter, now i cant trade on your site.
So my only choice is to either start a new account or just leave. I put forth aeffort here. I tried but you guys treat this like its some IRC chatroom.
I'm not a scammer or some punk kid, I'm a guy in my mid 30's who put forth a effort on your site and this is how im re-paid. I thought I could be productive member here.
Guess I was wrong.

There gave you some rep, so just relax, take a breath and be yourself. If you're really in your 30's (as am I unfortunately) you hopefully know how to just be yourself and do your own thing. People sometimes just need a chance to get to know a person before they can "hug it out."
Anyways, welcome to ZP, if you have any questions, problems, complaints, suggestions, yada, yada, yada, let me know.

With the way rep is working here now, it doesn't matter that much if you get slammed below zero. Someone with bigger rep POWER may come along and feel bad for you, and give you some pos. rep to bump you back above zero.
And it seems that some of our members with bigger rep power are being sympathetic lately, so you could get lucky.
And you already did. So, welcome to the zoo. When someone logs in and sees 20+ new posts in a row from one user, they aren't usually happy with that person. Just a tip. We value contributing members, honestly.

Intent is everything really, and it sounds like you are genuinely adding your "2 cents," its just that it's rather difficult for us to discern the intentions of someone who is relatively new here.
Also, we had a post count requirement a while back to gain access to the old invite trading thread, and needless to say it caused many to make spam posts just to qualify. This is still fresh in many people's minds.

Dear Mod...
Why do people care about negative rep? I can understand if one person gives it to you... but if many people give you negative rep, it is probably because you were whining about being negative repped.
Don't these people realize that writing good posts and not threatening to leave a forum is the best way to make those (pointless) rep points turn from negative to positive?
I think that only a moderator can solve this riddle...
HelenaP
July 21st, 2007, 04:50 AM
a--yeah...
OK. While I am no moderator (apologies, wingnut2600. I am attempting to solve a riddle), I like to help when I can.
I had this novel idea to do a "SEARCH" for the number of times the question of rep points had been asked and explained (since I couldn't find the sticky that I read when I first joined).
Said search returned hundreds of hits.
Within the 9 months of this thread being started, it went through discussions of;
fixing links, the various introductions/dispositions/personalities of the moderators, images, (which BTW...
Some parts of the forum allow for direct image embedding via URL links (CLICK HERE FOR EXAMPLE)
doesn't work anymore. After clicking, I once again find myself in the land of the lost.)
smileys, and hermaphrodite porn.
April 26th rolls around, and the thread is essentially resurrected by a question regarding the elusive and much sought after rep points, which is then answered again (and quite succinctly, IMHO), by several mods and a few ZP members.
The answer has sometimes varied in it's deliverance, but it's essential and orderly direction is the same;
Contribute/help and/or make good (intelligent? humorous?) posts.
The member that asked about it on the 26th responded to suggestions given in the following posts (one of which, and this is just my personal favorite-
Don't make 20+ posts in a row.
Don't whine about rep. It's not important.)
posted here for 3 more three days, then left (May 4).
One of the members' last post-
Now I can never trade here cuz you gave me some super negative rep points.
yeah, i t does matter, now i cant trade on your site.
Then there was this reply-
Intent is everything really, and it sounds like you are genuinely adding your "2 cents," its just that it's rather difficult for us to discern the intentions of someone who is relatively new here.
Also, we had a post count requirement a while back to gain access to the old invite trading thread, and needless to say it caused many to make spam posts just to qualify. This is still fresh in many people's minds.
In any event, welcome to ZP.
So that sort of settled that.
I just want to add, by my making this post, I might possibly lose my most reverently cherished, highly valued and worshiped rep points. But here's the deal...
I know this going in. I have thought out the consequences of what I am going to say before I say it.
Contrary to popular belief, to the majority of those that join a forum, relationships/"community"/social circles in the P2P world are just as valid as those (no matter the workplace, acquaintances, friends or loved ones) we have, or are a part of, in the real world.
Should we not think before we speak in the real world? I try to. Sometimes I don't. But what I am always prepared for, is to be held accountable for whatever I say.
I go into a statement or take a position, ready to stand behind it, no matter what consequences/benefits may come. This is known to some as speaking with integrity. Letting my "aye's mean 'aye' and my 'nay's' mean 'nay."
So if I make a statement, then bit*h because I get neg rep'ed for it... I don't know, but it would seem to indicate that I wasn't ready to accept responsibility for the statement I made.
I am the only one accountable for my actions.
So...*click* away...(for no other reason than my long-winded post/rant)
and not taking the time to spell check.

Where do babies come from?
A kid asks him mom "where do babies come from?" and the mom says "the stork". The kid replies "Then who's been fucking the stork?"

Some mods could while others would have to go to their secret thread and ask permission to use the one microwave that they all share between them.

We should have an "Ask an Admin" thread and see how long it takes for a response.

Don't you know anything. God put spicy peppers on this planet to see who was dumb enough to eat them, he then takes pleasure in the discomfort you go through getting them out.

Don't you know anything. God (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/member.php?u=1) didn't put spicy peppers on this planet and he may not even like them on his burritos.

Ok, here's a crazy question.
Assuming its not some chain yanking inside joke, how exactly does one gain entrance to the fabled VIP Lounge?
I somehow figured it rested upon the magic thousandth post, but I just passed that dubious milestone and no magic secret forum revealed itself.

Once you get in there you quickly learn the fabled VIP Lounge is nothing.
Next thing you'll be wanting in the super secret invite only VIP Lounge.

One may associate random-ness to perhaps chaos and confusion. Let's face it, things seem to work much better when a natural dynamic is allowed to occur.

This problem has been pointed out before. It seems this is the systems way of pointing out people who have more than one account at ZP. Like pooter said...CLONES.

The system is very quirky. This is not my first account but its the only one I have had active in many years si it shows up. It seems to only cause a glitch when a person has more than one active account. Its not definite what glitches may occur by having more than one active account and it seems to vary a bit from person to person. As a rule of thumb though, its an easy way to spot people with troll clones.
We did a bit of testing of this out last year when we were having troll problem.
Usually only the first active account will show up on the list and trolls...err clones will not show up at all

Since craigslist is censored and ebay sucks, and seeing that the mods here all have the inside skinny, I was hoping they would know where a guy could get a crusty pair of lesbian panties worn for two solid days at a Lilith Fair concert.

Will a mod please close the zeropaid forums? Its useless to the members and is only good for spammers to make money off of it. Zeropaid is DEAD! Who the Hell wants to wade through a couple of pages of pill spam just to find one post by a regular forum member? NOBODY! FIX THE FORUMS, LET SOME MORE PEOPLE BE SPAM MONITORS OR CLOSE THESE DAMN FORUMS!
