LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman has been ordered by police to take down a sign on her garden gate which read "Our dogs are fed on Jehovah's Witnesses."

Janet Grove, who owns a terrier puppy called Rabbit, insisted the sign was a gentle joke to discourage callers at her front door.

Her late husband put the sign up more than 30 years ago when members of the church called at their house on Christmas Day.

But police were forced to act after receiving a complaint.

"We were informed by a member of the public who found the sign to be distressing, offensive and inappropriate," a police spokesman said. "Officers attended the address and the sign was voluntarily taken down."

I think the sign should of be allowed to stay. It was on her property. Personally I tire of the little groups of jehovahs witnesses that come door to door every so often. Is it really the wishes of a higher power that they go around and harass people during their day to day to routines. And does anyone actually open the door and go OMG SIGN ME UP.

I don't have a sign I just stab them in the tummy and hide them in my basment I find a good stab to the tummy works much better than a sign...notice they don't seem to be as many around these days?

all in my basement with holes in their tummys.

There's always somebody who will find something distressing, offensive and inappropriate.

An American tourist travelling through Saskatchewan attempted to sue to force the town of Tisdale to change it's slogan from "The land of Rape and Honey".

The rape in question is a canola seed that the town is known for growing. It took a tourist that lived in a city their whole life to take offense.

I still find the slogan too funny to deal with.
