Welcome to ZP, Vdude726.

Cheaper Price does not indicate a potential for being better. And better games? Name one.

Assassin's Creed....

but thats coming out on the Xbox 360 and pc too.

Its way too early to tell whether one console's games catalog will be better than the other, especially when neither of the consoles mentioned have been released and finished games have not been made playable to the public.

The question should be what console looks more interesting to play and more worthwhile to buy.

Imho the wii has potential, if you look at the last gen of consoles they were good but nothing was revolutionary it's about time a company has stepped out into the light to break the mold. With that said it worries me to an extent take the dreamcast for example amazing system ahead of its time but it fell short and died. All consoles that have been released recently are all about power and not innovation. If anyone says ps3 and 360 will be the ones to reign on the market think about this their way to expensive for the average American or anyone in that matter. At this current time what would be the point in buying a ps3 or 360. A lot of the 360 games have already been ported to the pc which and that’s one more reason not to bother. Only time will tell who will come out on top.

Thats very true. It was sad to see such a great system fail. It was the last video game system I actually enjoyed.

I no lets make a console with less power than every one else give it the worst name ever! use freakin remote controls for gamepads and repackage mario another 16 times! yaaaaaaay!

While it may seem counterintuitive at first, maybe for the game market it is, it also could be a bold move in the right direction for Nintendo. Make a game console anyone can afford, with decent power, that only plays games. Wow, sounds pretty freakin cool when paired next to the all in wonder bank buster ps3.

It simply comes down to this: The people that cannot afford the Sony PS3 will buy a XBox 360 or Nintendo Wii, the ones who can afford it will go with the Ps3!

Why? Because it will beat the crap out of the other two in graphics and processing. And yes, it will play games too....imagine that!

You also have to remember that the COMPONENTS for the PS3 ....ARE NOT CHEAP! Go out and price the components seperately and you will see why they are not going to make a huge profit off of selling one system.

Thats Sonys folly. They lose money on every console trying to buy up the market while Nintendo is content to do their own thing, well - I might add, and make a profit on every console sold. Its no secret that I'm not a fan of Sony or Blu Ray but I'm sure the console will be somewhat of a success. Slow out the gate but in two years it will gain its feet. But by the time it hits its apex, something new from someone else will be looming. I would rather have a much cheaper PS3 without a Blu Ray player thats useless for todays games.

As far as side by side graphic comparison, that remains to be seen. Its may be just me but I'm not all that excited about the graphic enhancements of any of the consoles. It seems like a rehash to me. I'll come back when it looks like a pixar flick.

But back to what I was saying in my prior post. IMO, Nintendo could be making a wise move by playing to people on a budget. The market is certainly there and by going for it they may even come up to number 2 in the war. Hardcore gamers will go for PS3 but thats not enough to make a winning game system. Just ask Sega about their Dreamcast. HIgher cost = lower sales. Thats the bottom line. Now whos a game maker gonna want to make games for? A system thats cost excessive, difficult and very expensive to devople for and has a lower user base. Or a system everyone and their grandmother owns, that games are easier and cheaper to develope and produce?

Its difficult to weigh all the factors involved and its much to early for an absolute answer. Who can really tell what the public will buy into. But with gas expected to go well beyond 3 plus dollars a gallon (theres a CNN special talking 8 bucks a gallon, ughhh!) I'm of the opinion thrifty equals mass market sales figures.

Agreed mels when it comes down to it in the console industry their has not been really any huge innovations aside from graphics. The wii controller is a very intelligent move, I was watching a video and the guy incharge of pr said many people have used game controllers but almost everyone has picked up a remote control or somthing along those lines. They are trying to broaden the market which is somthing needed Id hate to say it but graphics arnt everything, with out better game play and innovations its all the same. Nintindo imho has some balls I just hope they arnt cursed like the dreamcast. Btw off topic anyone ever realize the dc had AA and the ps2 still doesnt kinda funny if you ask me go and play doa2 or mvc2 and compair its silly that a dead system still has better graphics then the ps2 imho.

Shit I wish my dreamcast wasn't broken or at least there was a working emu to be had! Jurassic 5 and Rob Zombie did rock the sound track out and J(S)GR invented cel shading which should place it somewhere on the all time great games list. The only reason I bought an X Box was to play Jet Set Radio Future and a few other Sega games.

Well I guess we will see once it comes out....but remember how everyone was complaining about the "high price" for the XBox 360 before it came out? Now it seems everyone and their grandmother has one! Well I think the PS3 will be the same way! It may start OUT expensive, but it will eventually go down in price so that the average joe CAN buy it.

And with the graphics and sound it has, I think it will trump anything out now on the market.

And as far as the Blue ray is concerned...I could take it or leave it, but I think that eventually games ARE going to be headed there!

In the 1980s we never thought we would need GIGABYTE hard drives either...look at the market now. Times change and media changes along with it.

I for one am excited about Nintendo's new system. Yeah, the name is lame. Yeah, they'll probably repackage Mario 16 more times. Yeah, the competition will be more powerful. But, how about the fact that you'll be playing games on the Wii that no one else can offer thanks to the control scheme? Not to mention (if implemented right) will give you a game experience no one has ever had before? I can't wait until I look like an idiot "swinging a sword" around in my living room. What about being offered all of Nintendos back catalog of games from Nintendo up to the Gamecube. I know most people on here probably have emulators but, these games will be endorsed by nintendo.

i think Wii will be better than ps3 take a look at Disaster: Day of Crisis

It really is quite simple!
A console is there to be a source of fun entertainment for short periods i,e. 15mins - few hours max. It is designed for a short fix of fun, a wee box of fun if you like, that you can have in your living room etc and not take up too much space. Over the years Nintendo have consistently had high quality games released for their consoles. The quality of the games is that they are very easy to pick up, pleasing on the eye, anyone can play them and they also have the innovation in thinking of NEW ideas! Yes Mario has been brought out again and again over the years but every time there are significant improvements over the original and new features of gameplay involved. The same applies to Zelda. I've played both Xbox and PS2 and while both have fantastic graphics as previously (PS1 and X-box) the games after a few hours of play become tedious and boring. Developing a really playable game requires a lot of work and testing to ensure that it is easy to control and understand. Most playstation and xbox games are churned out with lovely packaging, cut secenes etc but the games are usually the same old game rehashed over. The bottom lines is that these consoles have no soul at all. Nintendo games always have a feel of quality about them and are usually well finished. Don't get me wrong there have been some crappy games out for Nintendo, but on the whole the games are of a playable quality that anyone could pick up. The sales of the nintendo ds vs psp will prove that point.
We are at a stage now where graphics are good on all systems really, gone are the days of the 80's when god graphics made a game good. What we need at the moment is good playability and USE the graphics and sound to make a totally enjoyabke experience. If you have the best graphics in the world, after a while the dazzle will wear off and all you may be left with (if the gameplay is negelected) is a boring and mediocre game. There are some good titles for the playstation and Xbox but most of them are really boring and have limited playability.
A console is a console as I stated earlier, it is for playing games. It is NOT a media centre, it is for playing games. If the PS3 is going to be in the region of £500 well would you not be better getting a PC? If you want serious, heavy gaming then go and buy a pc as it is in the same price range and you can do more with it i.e. printing, internet, photography, word processing, graphics, mp3 downloads, games etc
The new Nintendo console is suposedly in the region of £120-£150 with its revolutionary controller and is at a price that most people can afford. A console over £200 is getting a bit privcey when you consider you want to buy at least 3 games. Also with development the Nintendo should be easier and cheaper to develop.
For me it really does seem quite clear. I do actually have a PC but I intend to buy the Wii when it comes out to have in my living room as it is small and looks like great fun also. I'm not gonna run out and buy a console at £500, its just to much money just for playing a game.
Don't you think??

Yes.

I like my 8-bit NES. I really like my 16-bit SNES. My Mario games make me happy.

That one for the PS2 where you roll around over everything, and it sticks to you, and you get bigger and bigger and bigger... that game is cool too.

For someone that isn't big on sports games, or... whatever's available on the Xbox or 360 (besides Halo?).... the Wii is PRETTY DAMN EXCITING. I just hope the controller doesn't suck.

Ive heard it will have standard controllers also. While I surely want to check out the new controller, I'll likely stick with the game pad. I only wish they would bring back the Joy Stick, NOT! That thing would wear out your hands because you had to hold onto the base and most people tend to apply force when trying to make a long jump, like its gonna make you jump farther. You know what I'm talking about don't ya? When Nintendo first came out with the pad I thought it sucked. Now I see it as one of the best leaps ever in the game industry. Maybe this new deal will do the same thing.

i found the saitek p990 dual analog controller. it was $20 and the emulator's dream. because of its button layout, you can play any emulator from nes to n64. and if there are any good xbox and ps2 emus out there (i havnt looked) it would do those well to.
