Before I was on NTL 2mb, I often downloaded torrents at 225.0kb/s.
NTL did a free upgrade to 4mb and now I'm lucky if it goes over 10.kb/s
my speeds are only slow using torrent apps, Ive tried several torrent apps and changed thee port
numbers but all are slow.
but my downloads from speed test sites are OK.
3819 / 363
Your download speed : 3819 kbps or 477.4 KB/sec.
That is 42.7% better than an average user on ntl.com
Your upload speed : 363 kbps or 45.3 KB/sec.
That is 18.6% better than an average user on ntl.com
and if I download from anywhere else I get good speeds, it is my
torrent apps and its not the seeds bit, actually I'm uploading normally,
very strange.
I've tried everything, Ive read everything, I can do thing blindfolded, Ive done it so many times.
Whats your suggestion ?
thanks In advanced.

Do NTL now throttle BitTorrent ports? If so try changing your ports. What else changed when you got this upgrade? New router maybe?

Over a 4 wk period I tried different ports at least 6 different Apps and with Azureus and ABC I Even changed the bandwidth settings, they all still do stupidly slow speeds, I don't use a router, so its not that.

Well it's obvious that NTL did something whilst upgrading so give them a call, tell them you are using P2P but don't say anything about copyrighted material.

Have you tried encrypting data traffic with utorrent or azuerus ?? I would do that and post back.

preferences/bit torrent/protocol encryption enabled
Here is from the site http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Does_.C2B5Torrent_support_Protocol_Encrypt ion.3F
You can choose Protocol Encryption's mode of operation in BitTorrent. Here is an explanation of the various options you can choose from:
* Disabled: Does not encrypt outgoing connections, but will accept encrypted incoming connections.
* Enabled: Attempts to encrypt outgoing connections, but will fall back to an unencrypted mode if the connection fails.
* Force: Attempts to encrypt outgoing connections, and will NOT fall back to an unencrypted mode if the connection fails.
* Allow legacy incoming connections enables or disables incoming legacy (non-encrypted) connections.
All modes will accept incoming encrypted connections (and the encryption is 2-way)!
It is NOT recommended to turn off "Allow legacy incoming connections", unless you cannot have any non-encrypted connections (typically in conjunction with Forced), in which case turning off "Allow legacy incoming connections" is acceptable.
Speeds and downloads should look like this,

Ok I encrypted the data with utorrent 1.6 and used port 56000 and downloaded a legal torrent, I waited a while and still it never goes over 10.4 kb/s.

My friend is on ntl I think they are on 2MB its goes around 200KB's on most well seeded torrents.
NTL do NOT block any traffic.
have you tryed different torrents from different sites?

im not sure if you can port foward using bittorrent, but sometimes if there is a problem with speeds using winmx because of throttleing/blocking with an isp, port fowarding will work. but then im all about mx, and i dislike bittorrent. anyhow, maybe this will help. :)

I took my router out of my system, turned off all firewalls tried various torrents with various apps and I changed the ports, still slow speeds.

Perhaps your ISP has firewall built-in on their network? In any case, you still need to ask your ISP.

After trying everything going and failing miserably, I tried new clients, ABC seems to work, but if I use ports over 8500, it doesn't port forward,
If I set ports below 8500, everything is OK,
Sorry I didn't reply before, I still had my old email set up, my memory is so bad I need email prompts
to remind me.

What torrent site is the torrent from?? And how many seeders/leecher ratio on the thing you were downloading?
