So I downloaded my first torrent today, an old anime episode.... an avi. video clip.
When I opened up the file, the video was actually playing without any sound.
Well, this isn't the first time I had trouble with the sound, but usually it was no problem because my player would tell me i needed certain audio plug-ins to play the file. Well, not with this file. My player didn't tell me anything. In fact, it just played the file normally without any sound. When I tried to play it using the latest version of Realplayer, it still didn't play any sound.

I don't think the torrent itself is screwed up - I got it from this site
http://www.mybittorrent.com

Can anyone help me "decode" this following torrent or suggest any audio plug-ins i can use?
My current plug-ins include..
RealAudio 1.0/2.0 Plug-in
View Source Plug-in 10.1.0.906
ReadAudio Plug in 10.0.986
RealVideo Plug-in 10.0.0.1470
Macromedia Flash for RealSystem plugin 10.0.0.1184
Realtext plugin 10.0.0.976
RealPix Plug In 10.0.0.993
Scalable Multicast Plug-in 10.0.0.373
MP3 Audio Plug in
MPEG4 Audio Plugin
AAC file format plug in
Extra Audio plugin
Extra Video plugin
Video Mpeg Plugin
Real player CD burner/burning engine
FP Secure Handle 6.0.9.32
Device Transer Plugin
Device TRansfer Plugin UI
Device Transfer Plugin - Creative Nomad
Device Transfer Plugin - WMDM 1.0.1.666

So basically, I'm just really pissed off my first torrent download should be so pain in the ass.

Maybe try Video lan (vlc). It doesn't use codecs but rather decompresses on the fly. It will play almost anything and doesn't crud up your PC with a bunch of hack codecs.

One other thing you could try fisrt, most players have a multi audio track option. Like Media player classic, check under "play" then look under audio and see if there are other sound tracks.

Where do I get Video Ian? what does "decompress on the fly" mean?

You get it from dub's link and don't worry about how it works, it just does. Don't worry, the more you download and practice the more routine it becomes.

I think I can speak on behalf of almost everyone here to try and avoid RealPlayer and rmb, rm, and rmv files. Real just kind of sucks.

I see people claiming that Real's video is as good as Xvid at half of the file size. I find it hard to believe, but I haven't actually watched any Real to compare them for myself.

Real has a bad rep with me, because their huge swine of a player, Realone, would have to open, just to play a poor quality clip on some web page.

Reals video compression "is" very good. Unfortunatly there player is the mathematical equivalent of a steaming pile of shit on the hood of a 86 Chevy nova hatchback.

As for the codec question get the basic version. The full version has to many unnecessary programs.
