Need help if possible, i've tryed that guide thats stickied on how to speed your downloads up but had no luck *sigh*

I'm using Azures, with the latest updates.
Service pack2
Netgear DG834G router
Norton IS

Have a 2meg line with UKOnline, i don't think they limit any ports, apart from blocking mail server ports.

This is, i'm getting 1 - 8KB/s on every torrent i've downloaded for the past 2 month, it's taken ages... *sigh*

I'd realy appriciate it if any 1 could help me out :)

This might help, not sure.

you're downloading 6 times faster then you're uploading, so don't complain
try limiting your upload speed to 80% max (prolly 20-25K for your connection)

Did you put a limit on your speeds by accident?

Quit being a file whore and downloading 24/7 as well as wanting fast BLAZING SPEEDS.. Your getting your files for free, and now you want speed... Im sorry. I read that somewhere on a thread when I gave advice on getting possibly fast speeds with any file.

Did you forward your ports like in www.portforwarding.com ?
Have you applied the patch to allow more connections, you need to if you have sp2. Here is the guide.
http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497

Have you tried private bt sites or torrents with the most seeders or just limited amount of leechers?

To aswer a few questions,

Yes i put a limit on the upstream, the other computers on my network get no upstream otherwise, and i recive alot of complaints, so i up the upstream to full overnight.

I use sites like, piratebay, isohunt, torrentz etc to get my torrents, and i go for torrents with a high seed count ifpossible.

I've forward'ed the ports to this computers yes, but i havn't used that patch you've linked.

I'm downloading 3 files atm, all have 300 + Seeds and around 800 leachers.

Still getting 10k max *sigh*

try 10K upload speed limit and see if your download speed doubles as well

Exactly! Ratio is extremely important on BT.

I'm the worst whore ever but I use Usenet for that (which obviously doesn’t effect BT ratio). I reserve Bittorent for rare and hard to find items. If you can maintain a ratio somewhere from 0.50 to 1.00 you'll do Ok. Obviously the higher ratio the better but I'll bet yours is bellow 1 to 10.

There is such a thing as karma, at least in the digital world anyways. Network complaints or not you have three choices which I will list from easiest to hardest.

1.) Share more.
2.) Find Usenet and find salvation from such nonsense
3.) Hack your BT client ratio (which nobody here will help you do)

Tryed that and it doesn't work.

Bah, i'm sure I used to able to get them faster than i do now, i got two of my mates to download the same torrent and they get better speeds than me on it.

ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio,
ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio,
ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio,
ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio,
ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio, ratio,

When you first install bittorent it gives you decent speeds based on a somewhat neutral ratio. As time passes if do not share much your ratio drops and so does your speed. It really is that simple.

Thanks for that, but my mates download just as much as me and i'm stuck in the crap lol.

Every torrent client i've used gives me poor speeds, so it can't be the "ratio" as they wouldn't all log to the same place.

tbh, i didn't evan know they loged how much you shared in the first place >.O

When you're done downloading whatever it is you're downloading, let your client continue to upload. Overnight allow unlimited uploads when no one is using your network.

This will help if not completely solve your problem. This is the way Bittorent works. If your friend downloads faster I'd be willing to bet your friends ratio is higher then yours.

Also try to select the file with the most seeds.

I get far better speeds using uTorrent. That said...

uTorrent, using the encryption option, can help you bypass your ISPs packet filtering, if that plays into your scenario.

If you have multiple PCs running, your splitting your bandwidth between them - that slows you down. Having multiple torrents downloading splits your resources as well.

In your situation, A 2meg line isn't that awfully fast. I am not trying to be mean. :(

Finally, The biggest thing that can limit your speeds is ratio - the others here are right. In an ideal world, you want to have more seeds than leechers. In the 300/800 situation, 63% of the peeps are leechers. That does not make for lightning speeds.

I just saw this thread. I did not read it, but it might have some useful stufff for you? http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/bittorrent/t-improving-bittorrent-download-speeds-pdf-download-33125.html
