Seriously, thanks for taking what used to be a great p2p site with great members on a fantastic forum and turning it into the ad infested shithole it is now.
Who needs spyware when you can just visit Zeropaid?
I don't think I've ever seen more fucking ads in my entire life.
They're at the top, bottom, throughout the forum, on the side, everywhere. That's with me having an ad blocker.
Sorry for the rant, but it needed to be said; again if it's already been stated.
I'd rather pay a small amount of money monthly (like I do with other forums such as offtopic.com) than to go here free, but yet, be utterly confused throughout a thread because of all the damn ads!

its little consolation but u can block ALL the ads with firefox and adblock
or maybe just get a modified hosts file
im in no way defending the use of ads but if u never see them the they are not an issue

You have an ad blocker? when you used to be a member here, we ran a lot of flashy fastclick ads AND popunders. now we run google ads. quit talking shit.

I would. If these forums were active with alot of the old members here, hell yeah I would. Like I've already stated, I pay for premium services at other forum sites. I would do the same here if there was an option and there were alot of the old people back.
And yes, I remember the flashy adverts and the pop-unders.....I liked those better than the current situation.
And do I have a huge, current hosts file with firefox and an ad blocker. I know how to block ads.
That all being said, in all honesty, I do appreciate the many years that jorge and dub have put in this site. Although I haven't liked it much in the past several months, for years I did, and for that, I truely am thankful for your hard work on this site.

piranetus I remember the days when you were here and i always appreciated your posts. It saddens me to see a senior member saying stuff like this, and saddens me even more to see that you have a huge, current hosts file without googlesydication.com in it. Honesly, I think these ads are less offensive to the senses, hell I trew a party the day we got rid of popunders. We make a hell of a lot less but I think that is a good thing because most people dont mind the google ads.
We are about to give some serious hard work to the community, we have a cd ripping/burning application in the works we are going to be giving away as well as a bittorrent client and much more. Zeropaid has always been and always will be by, for, and of the people.

I wasn't trying to imply that you guys are banking off of the ads. I've run ads on sites that I've done before and know that, in general, while they may make some renevue, usually it isn't all that much. I don't believe you guys are "ripping" us off or anything like that.
Again, in all honesty I do appreciate all the work that you and jorge have done to the site in the past.
Sorry for the first rash post.
My life hasn't been all that great lately, in some respects, and then I come here and am bombarded by ads and it just pissed me off. I understand your reasonings behind doing what you do, I was just venting.
Again, even though I don't frequent this site nearly as much as I used to, I did have some great times here and learned alot here. For that, I will always be thankful.

This forum has been rather boring for a long time.
Not because of the forum per say, but just because p2p activity isn't near as active as it used to be.
ah, the good whole years, '98 - '02......napster, winmx, kazaa, scour, audiogalaxy, gnutella, edonkey, etc...
I mean, yeah, sure I still download like crazy off of newsgroups. But I think that the p2p activity high that we saw at the turn of the century is slowly, and finally, dying down.
cjules13
May 26th, 2006, 02:11 PM
True, I think the pros are just hardcore on BT and newsgroups, and not much is changing there. There certainly aren't many other apps worth talking about.
According to Slyck there are more people using p2p today than ever before, and I buy that, but I guess it's become rather routine now and less to talk about.
Still no real excuse for Zeropaid... other p2p portals (Slyck, p2pConsortium) blow this joint away with forum traffic. Sure they may not boast 40 gazillion members like here, but there are many more quality members.
Slyck has become my first stop for p2p news that's for sure. It's gotten better here, but it's just not sticking well for some reason.

When I first got online, a new program almost made me orgasmic. Napster, Scour, iMesh and all the other ones big and small. I surfed CNET India just to find a few different programs that had 1000 users. Those days are over: now the debate is whether it's better to use Torrent or Usenet to dl at 800K/sec. It's not fun anymore. Not Zeropaid's fault.

Go pay membership and lose even more members.
I don't have a problem with the ads, but our forum space has shrunk to about 60% of what it use to be. I only have a 14" monitor at work and I can't tell you how much the new look sucks on it. I understand the ads on the main page, but why infest the forum with so much crap? I must admit that a lot of good members have disappeared.

p2p activity isn't near as active as it used to be.
Blam! Nailed it!!!
Wanna know the difference between when I used to just surf this site, and when I joined up?
Seemed like every month, some new program or network would pop up. Some new version, lite, ultra, spyware free, low-cal fat-free sugar-free, whatever.
I'd check in from time to time, read through threads about particular programs and networks, check the front page for what threads about what programs were being talked about.
I also downloaded a lot. Broadband was still in the $50 a month neighborhood, and dialup was $20. Cranking every drop I could out of a 56k connection really meant something, and masses of other people were running it, too.
I used to leave dialup connected overnight to get 4 or 5 songs, or wait a week for a 5 minute video.
Then, the bottom fell out. Networks and programs started disappearing, I got a fast connection and got most of what I was looking for in hours, not days.
Yet, something has been missing.
On dialup, using napster or early kazaa alternatives, I found everything I searched for. Yeah, I had to wait, but so many people were out there sharing that EVERYTHING you could imagine (musicwise) was available.
Now... well now I rarely even use my bandwidth for p2p. My harddrives are full, I hate most of the new music coming out, even porn begins to lose its flavor with ready availability.
Ah, to have another WinMx disappear....

Not to get off the topic of the ZP ads debate, but a point was made about the decline of new P2Ps and how it compares to the days of the P2P Boom and I dunno it seems to me that there's no real sense of urgency to develop new ways. Hear me out on this...
Kazaa, BearShare, Audio Galaxy, Morpheus etc etc etc's popularity came from Napster's downfall. Other ways came from those networks decline. Now with ways to run trackers out of public view, the rise of friend to friend networks, and newsgroups and Mirc still basically unscathed, there's not as much incentive to push new networks. You can still find pretty much what you want to find maybe not as fast as the heydays but it's there.
Until there is incentive, ie a need to try new ways, I doubt many developers are going invest the time and resources. It's kind of sad in a way but it's just the way it is.
Just my 2 cents....

I rarely ever go on these forums for several reasons.
A} Loss of many quality members
B} People who think they have an acute knowledge of every subject but don't realize in reality they have their heads so far up their asses they can't even see.
C} Emergence of numerous conflicts between members, other sites, and so on. Just to name a few I was there in the days of Seph, the cruel bashings of Krell {I HATE YOU}, the wars with ES5.
D} Lets see back to Krell. A power hungry ego maniac. The board nazi to say the least, or at least used to be. To give a litle history on myself I was banned once before for a flaming war and being wrongly accused of something. When I tried to join the Zeropaid DC HUB with more than 200GBS of files under my belt, and a good amount of posts I was not only rejected but was subject to harassment and diatribes from many members. While this was going on another member got rejected from the hub and he said the hub had something like child pornography or something along those lines. Krell being a little firebrand went back when I got rejected and blamed what the other guy did on me. Real nice :}. If it wasen't for members like Krell and others I would have 4 times as many posts as I did now because my old name had many posts as well. Kazaa, And Gnutella were already popular before napster's downfall. They didnt have the exposure or numbers that napster did but other networks were certainly popular. Becaus napster only dealt with mp3 and these other networks dealt with all file types.
Newsgroups and IRC is not P2P and is file sharing in that sense because they are cilent/server architecture. They have also always been more popular than P2P.
There is no incentive to develop new p2p apps because its too risky and there are too many threats from both outside and within the p2p community. Anyone wanting to develop p2p apps should look beyond P2P File Sharing and explore other new applications of p2p.

The DC hub was unoffical at least when I was supermod, so any harassment or problems or politics you encountered there were not connected to this site at all.
I knew that harassment and flaming was going on here on these forums and tried to put an end to it but was unsuccessful. Just so you know alot of the people doing it had their moderator buddies sticking up for them and after I left they didnt have to worry about any of the mods coming down on them.
They didnt have this sites best interest to heart, to them it was all about them and their selfish needs. In the end it alienated new members, and caused this site to become stagnant. Now that they left and because they alienated so many new posters along the way, registered members is down, and pretty much the community has to be rebuilt from scratch.
From alot of the things I see here, I dont think the current direction is the right one, and some of the current policies are ineffective for a large forum. Im not going to get into the specifics on what should be done because no one's asked and it is not my responisbilty.

ZP has about 439,000 but how many of them actually visit the site or for that fact post in the forums. the ads are also annoying as hell and i'm sure somebody will say just use firefox and the ads won't show but not everyone feels like switching browsers. krell was somewhat of a egomaniac but he does know his shit when it comes to computer problems and has helped alot of people so i for one can overlook some of his shortcomings on dealing with people. one more thing close the old threads that serve mo purpose. i'm tired of some moron bringing back a 2-3 year old thread and acting like it was posted yesterday. how fucking stupid can you be to reply to question that was asked 2 years ago. well that was my little rant..................i'm done.

Actually ZP is a place where noobs should be able to come and ask questions. There is nothing wrong with that. Sure it gets tiresome for us old heads who stick around here for god knows why but ZP should be more than just a place for us to use as a chat room. Its a place to inform people. The worst thing about the site IMO is the members who act like their opinion about other P2P apps is an elite view and everyone else is a dumb shit for using what they want or like.
I myself have one network I like best but I don't pop into every thread saying people should switch over to what I like and trying to fit "newsgroup" at least once in every post has really been over worked. That shit is annoying as hell.
This seems to have turned inot the "lets bitch" thread. Glad to do my part!

Youre an idiot, use newsgroups like me and my elite buddies! I wouldnt help a dumb ass noob if his hard drive was on fire. Your opinion is stupid and what you like to use is stupid too. I get all kinds of cool files you don't or can't get because I always get them first and max out my 100meg connection 24/7. P2P is for suckers and idiots who think sharing content freely is good, what losers!
Of course Im just kidding. Pretty good imitation of the elite lunk heads though.

If it were me I'd watch Beyond the Valley of the Dolls just to get a glimpse of December 1968 playmate Cynthia Myers.

Amen, I think we all can remember a time when we weren't as well versed as we may be now. There was nothing worse than trying to find answers to a question and either having nowhere to turn or find yourself in a place where the more advanced looked down on you.
Thank goodness there's a place like this for people who have a question about something and can get an educated response.
The alternative is to have a place where people second-guess asking a question out of fear that others may think they are less intelligent.
A healthy dialogue always requires a mixture of the educated and the less informed. How boring would it be to have a room filled with people of the same degree of knowledge or experience.

That might explain the mumbling, as it would mufle his speech, but doubt thats the case.....he usually has a lot of insightful responses to the news postings on the HP, and find myself agreeing with him most of the time on a lot of issues.
