mu-torrent/azareus behind PPoe - modem and router, problems with port forwarding

dear people!


I tried to make my port forwarding to work using all the help I have been able to find around here. at least most of it... however it does not work. status is "red" after a while using azareus or mu-torrent.

I finally traced the problem to perhaps having to do with me sitting behind an ADSL modem and then a router.

My system in brief



ADSL modem, with PPoE/router - DLINK DI-624 with proper settings for filters and such forwarding correct ports - Cable to my computer/static IP ... with WinXp SP2 firewall enabled BUT Mu-torrent is passed through... uPnP is enabled and mu-torrent sees the correct port (non standard) being mapped...

So: Do I need to fiddle around with the modem settings?

Well if you have your ports forwarded correctly, it wont be that. Just because uTorrent is in the exception list, doesnt mean it will work. Add the ports to the XP ICF under UDP and TCP.

Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Exceptions > Add Port > uTorrent UDP - 16886 and uTorrent TCP - 16886

Also, don't randomise your ports in uTorrent, have them static at something different that normal BT ports, perhaps 16886 or 50000.

After this, go to the uTorrent Speed Guide and run the "test if port is forwarded properly"

I did all of what you said, exavtly. It still doesnt work


mu-torrent reports in the log that the port is mapped ok

Have you those ports correctly forwarded in your router setup? 16886-16886 TCP - UDP?

Did you also enable Port Mapping in uTorrent and allow UPnP in your router too? Go through this...

I did all the above, but I actually do not know if the router allows for upnp... its a d-link DI624+ and I dont find it in the settings anywhere.

in the firewall of windows it does say upnp framework... which I marked, but there semes to be some ports there too... should those be set to the same as in utorrent or ...?
