I never heard of a LimeWire lite.... Try FrostWire.

Why go lite? Wouldn't going **Free** LimeWire Pro be better?

Im pretty sure there is no LimeWire lite. And lite does not mean that it uses less resources thats "light" not "lite." "Lite" means that its spyware free. LimeWire uses a lot of resources because it's written in Java. It connects to the Gnutella network so all you really need is another client connecting to the Gnutella network (such as Gnucleus, Bearshare, Shareaza, Morpheus, KCeasy, etc.)

Hi Guys,

I am not really clued up on what is going on on the computer world, so i just joined this site to try and get up to date and get help with my ignorance.

Please can someone answer the following questions.

I only discovered that you can down load stuff by torrents a few days ago; i down loaded MP3 rocket
and have been getting quite a bit of audio stuff; but it is seems to be slow compared to other options i see people discussing on downloads.com

It takes me about 25 mins to download one song of 4,000kb yet i see people saying they can load 10 songs in a minute.

I am based in Uganda, which is a third world country; is this the reason?

I see that mp3 rocket pro is available, but they charge $ 34.99 + $ 14.99 to download movies, i am sure i can do this faster and for free somewhere else, can you advise where?

Rgds

Stevie

Stevie, it could be that you are getting songs without a lot of sources, or that your Ugandan ISP doesn't have as fast a connection to the rest of the world or somehow limits your speed.

Thanks for the reply.

If i put in a search, it may say that 12 people are on line with that item, i say download but it then says downloading from 2 sources; thats always the maximum source.

Th speed then comes in at about 3 or 4 kb/s

I was ok with this, because it was all new and i was amazed at what i was getting for free; but on investigation
i saw others getting really fast speeds.

If i want to down load a movie it will take days; i have an isdn line of 64k bandwidth.

Also i cannot seem to burn anything to CD that i have down loaded, there is no provision for it; when i go to real
player, non of the music is in there.

They advertize mp3 rocket pro; for a fee of about $ 50.00 and say that you can burn anything to cd, is this the only way to get my stuff onto a CD ?

I also see people talking about limewire, Azureus, Bittornedo etc, which would be the best for me to use as a novice, easy application, no spyware no crashing of windows etc ?

Wait, so are you using mp3 rocket to download music? Did you pay anything for it? You shouldnt be paying any money for your filesharing in the first place unless its newsgroups.

I also see people talking about limewire, Azureus, Bittornedo etc, which would be the best for me to use as a novice, easy application, no spyware no crashing of windows etc ?
The easiest out of those would be LimeWire (though I would suggest you try FrostWire instead of LimeWire- theyre almost the same). But LimeWire is only good for music. For movies go with a BitTorrent client such as uTorrent or Azureus.

FrostWire is an identical clone of LimeWire Pro the only difference being its not watched by anti-piracy groups.

Try Ares, it does not takes so much ram as limewire. I like Ares a lot better than limewire because Ares does not use java ;) Ares and limewire uses diffrent networks but they a very similar. Ares works very good on "older" computers, my friend has a computer with like 800mhz and 128mb ram, Ares works perfectly and he can use internet and listen to music at the same time without that his computer craches :)

Actually Bearshare lite uses the same network and uses much less resources and even performs better when tested on my 2 computers. http://www.technutopia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2002
