newbie needs help

i'm running xp sp2,and have a question about converting files.my computer won't play vob files,so i've been using winavi to convert vob to mpg or avi.but the last three days,it won't convert,saying in essence i dont have the right vob codec.but i've googled,and found nothing about a vob codec.i even uninstalled and re-installed winavi,but it still wont work.whats weird was until the last 3 days,it worked fine,and i've made no changes to my computer.can someone help me please?thanks in advance

Does your computer comes with WinDVD player pre-installed?

Did you also try other converter such as DVDSanta?

Downloads POWERDVD or VLC player. Im not sure but vlc player may play dvd's. They play everything else.

POWERDVD does everything including providing you with subtitles during the movie.
