I am pretty sure my ISP her here in the UK (BT Internet) is preventing me from using P2P clients (my perferred client is Azureus).
Does anyone know if there is any way to get around this problem...or will I be forced to sign up with an ISP that doesnt prevent file-sharing?
Many thanks,
Alex

Use uTorrent and turn on the encryption, and as well try it out and post feedback. Make sure to portforward if you have a router and turn firewall off on xp or accept incoming data.

ntl:telewest is a good ISP to go with, since they're going to be using BitTorrent themselves in the future. Plus all their services are unlimited (unlike BT)

Azureus also supports protocol encryption. Make sure you are using the latest version and have a look in options for Protocol Encryption or transport Encryption. Also mak sure you are using a port that is rnadomly selected and changes every time you start the program.
If Azureus doesn't support thatt option, uTorrent does.

Also, don't use the standard 6881 port.

I'm with ntl:telewest (currently through the ntl network, not telewest) and have no problems with downloading torrents, i use uTorrent for that ....

They blacklist certain common BT ports so if you change the port, its possible it wont be throttled.
Just add the prefix 1 to your current port (16881) or try 50000 if you like. The world is your oyster.
