Please give me some feedback here. I personally do not like the forum talk & members photos crap on the left hand side of the page. Just my 2 cents, but i do not like it! It is most annoying. It should have an option to either use it or not, like your favs on IE for example.

It looks very unorganized (the entire page).
With google ads on top, zp stuff lining the left column, google ads in the middle of the forum, and google ads on the bottom of the page, it really is kind of distracting.

I didn't realize this was already being discussed in another thread. Please feel free to merge them if that seems fit.
I too have a very small monitor at work making this new look, look very shitty.

I agree with you, When I bring up ZP, the first thing I look at besides the front page news stories is the Forum Talk, the pics though I can care less about!

Well, i would say this. Since I have moved that photo section to the left column, there about 7,000 more people going to the site a day. Not everyone will want/need it, but some of you might be interested.

Well if it is so god damned important than fuck it, put a fucking column on the right side too.
Hell here's a grand idea!
Just do away with the forums entirely, and put a bunch more redundant links in it's place!
Better yet, why not just move the fofs link if it's not getting enough hits to suit you, and stop fucking up the forum space.

Is this about the numbers? How many more new members can we milk $ from? Jorge, do you not fucking care about current members opinions? No one likes it. I can't tell you how annoying I find it on a 14" monitor!!!

That's funny to me too, because this place seems extra dead lately.
Oh, I think you're talking about facesoffilesharing. Yeah, I buy that... but the forums are just getting quieter and quieter.
Maybe a lot of people passing through... but no one wants to stay.

You are all barking up the wrong tree. Maintaining a site, even more so one with decent traffic, isn't free, and it can't be done in ten minutes a month.
Any whining about changes that increase revenue will fall on deaf ears.

Reread for clarity.
Sucking up? Nah. Facing the music. You think the owner of a grocery store cares what you think about the packaging or price on steak? Fuck no! Not as long as you buy it. And that doesn't matter if 20 other people buy it.
The fact of the matter is increased traffic takes priority over our happiness.
That, and it was dead about this time last year, too.

If that's the case Jorge should put only tits and ass on facesoffilsharing and then that would increase the daily hits to 14000.
I do agree, when it comes to ad revenue, it's quantity and not quality. Shame we got used to some quality so now we're missing as it goes down the shitter.
Jorge
May 11th, 2006, 02:05 PM
cj, just because I added a side bar does not mean quality is being compromised. We have been investing lots to developing quality guides for our users as seen here: http://www.zeropaid.com/news/6411/Azureus+RSS+Feed+Made+Easy
The forums are not the only place on our site, many of you that use the forums are advanced users and I understand that, but there is a need to pursue our other users. If you pay attention to who is using the site, most of them are not logged in, this is an attempt to encourage more users to stay logged in and keep coming back, right now we maintain about a 1/4 returning users, i want to see that number rise.
I think what might need to happen is the sidebar needs to be slimmed down a bit cause of screen size, but then again, only about 12% of you that use the site have 800x600 or less. I can't make everyone happy, but i will try to do so. Your input is always needed, just make sure you express yourself in a manner in which i can understand and comply with.

I'm not upset about the sidebar... I just have noticed a LOT less traffic in the forums overall. Seriously, sometimes there might be an 8hr window with only 3 new posts.
Why is anyone's guess, but myself and others included think that maybe it's because the site has become more and more diluted and the advanced users have seen this become a noob site.
That's fine too, everybody was a noob once and needed help, but I think you need to be able to cater to both audiences so that the noobs can still get help from the advanced users.
Got no serious bone to pick, just some observations.

All being said (and Cjules, I see T&A in the sidebar right now) I'm pretty sure most people will continue to hang around unless "premium" content enters the picture. Once people have to put a buck down out of pocket, they will be out.
One of the hardest things about getting new users into the forums is that people 'round here have developed a very low bullshit tolerance. Tons of spam, trolls, and single post "noobs" have a lot of members put off when it comes to new users. Of course, that comes with decent traffic. I myself surfed the sight for a good 2 or 3 years before I actually registered and began posting because I was somewhat intimidated by the banter.
Now, now I just tell you all to kiss my.....

I love the site jorge! I just been busy lately but i still have zeropaid as my homepage. Can't go a day without checking new posts. The side bar actually helps a lot by making the site easier to navigate, especially for new members or people with less know how. To me, it doesnt distract and i'm usually on a 15 inch laptop monitor.

Believe me, I am taking it easy, but it's called freedom of speech and I was only expressing my discontentment for having to view the ever-widing sidebar on a 14" monitor at work. And it does resemble that other place except for the missing moo box.

Freedom of speech and posting on someones site are two different things. None of these changes really bother me one way or the other.
State your opinion and let others state theirs. There is no need to try and argue down what someone else thinks about it.

About a year to a year and half ago, I made the comment that new users were getting squeezed out by the regulars and that zp was becoming more of a place for the "in" crowd and less for discussion and helping people.
People here need to learn patience and tolerance and then maybe you'll se the forums regain some steam. If I were a noob and had my questions torn apart and then ridiculed, I wouldn't hang around either.
Here's the thing. Forums and such require a balance of established members and new people to keep the discussion flowing. If you have too many of one or another it doesn't work as well.
As far as the side bar goes, I'm not too thrilled with it either. However, that said, it's Jorge's call as to what he wants to do with his site. He has to balance things as he sees fit even if it means pissing some people off or alienating some long time users.
OK I'll step off of my soapbox now.

Hi LoTD Good to see u m8
Things have changed and I have seen some people lightening up a bit. But there's always room for improvement. Hell I am guilty as anyone else in that I haven't always been fair to new people. But we live and learn and try to improve.
As for freedom of speech, like anything else it's rarely absolute. You're censored in everything you do in some form.
See ya in the funny pages :)

I for one like Krell a lot, but since he came back for awhile he ripped so many noobs a new one it might have something to do with the current drought. I don't know if the dude is coming back or what, whatever, I like him, but I bet he scared away countless would-be posters...

I wouldn't be so hard on Krell. He simply told it like it was. If you asked a stupid question....well then? Krell was very fair if your questions and posts were educated in some miniscule way or perhaps funny.
I too miss Krell. He was a wealth of knowledge and a valued member of this community. I wouldn't know who to ask for computer help now that he's gone.
Lately, I find this board extremely boring. I will still browse by once in a while, but it seems like all the fun is gone from here...am I wrong?

Zeropaid has an activity menstrual cycle that rotates in seasons rather than weeks.
I had the same feeling about this time last year. The whole boredem issue and whatnot. And then I realized.... I was addicted to the drama that often unfolds here.
