Die-hard Star Wars fans soon can see the original theatrical versions of the first three Star Wars films on DVD.
Even though George Lucas adamantly declared 2004's digitally restored Star Wars Trilogy DVDs the definitive versions of his movies, fans have held out hope for DVDs of the originals.
Their wishes will be granted Sept. 12 when Fox releases new two-disc DVDs ($30 each) of Star Wars (since retitled as Episode IV: A New Hope), The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that include the films as they first appeared in theaters, along with the new, restored versions (now available in the four-disc $70 Star Wars Trilogy).

yeah I like the total 360 he did on this, I guess he realised how much his fans were pissed he didnt release the unedited originals.
Either that or his wallet finally told him how much more he would make if he re released the originals in the super duper jedi collectors pack with double the crap and whistles.

Yup, moneoa's right, this was all crafted from the beginning. Had to release the remakes on DVD first and SAY that he wouldn't release the originals to get everyone to buy the remakes... If he said the originals would be out later then he would've sold less of the remakes.
Now every fan is going to have 2 copies. Dup'ed us well I say... I suppose I should just wait for the originals on Blu-Ray or HDDVD, depending on which one lasts.
But then again he'll release the remakes on hidef 1st, then the originals, so I guess I'm out for the next 3-4 years...

YOu dont have to wait or buy it. Its gonna hit the internet as DVD9's.. And if you have a HD-DVD player or Blue Ray Player, obviously you have money to buy the DVD's in those formats.

Even though I can afford the DVDs as most people can, I'm still pissed that I bought the special editions when Lucas supposedly wasn't going to release these on DVD. He played me like a violin...

South Park made fun of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, so Steven Spielberg got hammered when he edited the handguns with walkie talkies. I think their both idiots in the since, you dont mess with a creation people fall in love with. So many times they go through and mess with things to improve apon or make even that much better, yet more you mess with it, the more that changes from the original movie. They always do this to make money, they released unedited, uncut, directors cut, special edition, DTS or Superbit edition movie. They do this to make more money off people.
