Help, having problems recovering BIOS

My first post here, hoping this is the right place.

Anyways, i am somehow experienced everyones worst nightmare...my pc just kicked the bucket in the middle of flashing bios. And i have spent more than 7 hours total infront of 2 different annoying screens that go no where, and the same beeps that have found thier way under my skin.

Powering on i get the Award Bootblock Bios screen

BIOS ROM checksum error

Insert system disk and press enter

Off a different sites forums, someone reccommended i create a bootable floppy with the files AWDFLASH.EXE , Latest bios, and a self created AUTOEXEC.EXE.

From there i get a new screen, the bios flashing screen where it beeps and says SOURCE NOT FOUND! , and wont let me type in anything in the box.

Any help is greatly appreciated

maybe you can reset the BIOS by taking the battery out of the board for 5Mins

Thx for the reply..but correct me if im wrong...pulling out the battary resets CMOS not BIOS. I did try it a while ago though. No luck.

Anyone else have any ideas?

how did you flash the bios and then find out about
'AWDFLASH.EXE , Latest bios, and a self created AUTOEXEC.EXE'

was it a program that let you flash the BIOS from windows or the web or something?

can you enter the BIOS setup at all ?
i guess not..

try taking the autoexec.exe off the floppy
and manually typing
at the A:\

AWDFLASH.EXE *BIOS.BIN

*(eg aw702.bin)

or just run

AWDFLASH.EXE
and enter the name of the new *bios file
in the 'File Name to Program' field

a couple of conflicting answers, the people at the above thread say to rename the flash image to A7N8X-E.ROM
where the guide from asus seems to say to enter the .bin like in the pic ^

Before i didnt have the autoexec.bat file on the floppy for flashing. Anyways something I realized is the screen im getting saying source not found isnt the same as the screen you posted. And all the screens that I can get to wont let me type anything.

Any ideas?

can you get to the a:\ DOS prompt at all, from a bootable floppy?

Before i didnt have the autoexec.bat
first you said autoexec.exe

what does the .bat file say?

did you try take that .bat off the floppy then?
and try it manually like i suggested ?

If nothing else works, you may have to get a new BIOS chip from the manufacturer of the motherboard or just get a new motherboard. I know that is not what you want to hear, but sometimes it is the only answer.

ok, has anyone ever gotten a virus, trojan, etc from downloading software from this site? and whats the opinion on ad-aware?

2/ Look along the top of the page you will see several links ,go to the one that says 'Search' :
click and it will allow you to "Search Forums"

for exapmle: for opinions on this forum about adaware,spybot S&D etc etc
just type

Its always best to go to your computers manufacture website and check for updates for your motherboard, bios and drivers. In many times although you can match your motherboard with bios updates from the bios manufacture, its not reccommended unless it's completely necessary. A lot of people go and buy unnecessary bios updates from their bios manufacture only to find out that it is not compatible with their computer model. Most computer manufactures will provide free bios updates and tools on their websites drivers updates page. I tried that BIOS Agent program one time just to see what it would say and it tried to get me to buy a bios update for $55 that wasn't even compatible with my Compaq Presario model. I then check with my manufacture websites Compaq(HP) and they provided me with a free bios flash tool and free bios upgrade with detailed instructions. I could believe how easy it was to upgrade my bios on this Compaq Presario, on my other computers it was pretty difficult.
