Kuala Lumpur: A Malaysian man said he nearly fainted when he received a $218 trillion phone bill and was ordered to pay up within 10 days or face prosecution, a newspaper reported Monday.
Yahaya Wahab said he disconnected his late father's phone line in January after he died and settled the 84 ringgit ($23) bill, the New Straits Times reported.
But Telekom Malaysia later sent him a 806,400,000,000,000.01 ringgit ($218 trillion) bill for recent telephone calls along with orders to settle within 10 days or face legal proceedings, the newspaper reported.
It wasn't clear whether the bill was a mistake, or if Yahaya's father's phone line was used illegally after after his death.
"If the company wants to seek legal action as mentioned in the letter, I'm ready to face it," the paper quoted Yahaya as saying. "In fact, I can't wait to face it," he said.
Yahaya, from northern Kedah state, received a notice from the company's debt-collection agency in early April, the paper said. Yahaya said he nearly fainted when he saw the new bill.
Government-linked Telekom Malaysia Bhd. is the country's largest telecommunications company.
A company official, who declined to be identified as she was not authorized to speak to the media, said Telekom Malaysia was aware of Yahaya's case and would address it. She did not provide further details.

My thing is why they let the phone bill get up so high and then send a bill?? If i spend about 400 dollars on long distance, they call me to make sure i can pay it by that time or cut my long distance off.. THis was 9-10 years ago.

Well next time him and his dad should learn to use the phone less then they wouldn't get these sort of high charges! haha poor guy.
Maybe they should look at the small print, "1,000,000 per second local and national calls"

what i have to wonder is what was the final cost to the phone company for all these "services" did it cost them 2 billion more for their company to supply these calls, or are they just pulling a number out of their ass because thats what they decided to charge

When do they forget to bring the decimlal 12 or more places over? Or actually go that far back to round up.

It does seem like a lot a decimial points, I not sure how such a large error happen like this but the bill was only was supose to be 23 USD not 218,000,000,000,000 USD. That like calling a 1-900 number at 20 USD a minute for 20,723,782 years 173 days, it has to be an error.
