View Full Version : Patched WinMX won't connect

I have the patched version of WinMX running on a Win98 SE, 266 MHz laptop with 64 MB RAM (so 1337) and 56 k dialup. As of today, it will not get beyond the amber connecting phase. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the client several times. I disconnected and reconnected my dialup connection. It still won't connect. Is anyone else having this trouble right now?

Online I see a new version called WinMX 2006 that we have to pay for! Is this the same WinMX? Has the company sold out?

Thank you.

Do not give them money. It's a scam.

Not to be too ignorant, but that is one rocking machine you're running there. Ever hacked NASA? Check where you got the 'patched version' of WinMx and see if you meet the system requirements.

Yeah, it's such a great machine. I leave my friends in the dust when we play Doom 3 over my superfast dialup connection. XP

Does it meet the system requirements?

What version of WinMx are you using?

Sometimes it takes a long time to connect after the latest PIEPatches. Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting helps, but it does not seem to be working for you.

Do you use a primary or secondary connection?

Damn, feeling extra prickly today aren't we oh cheap one?

Am I missing something? I thought WimMx was pretty much dead.

It is pretty much dead. This is just a new way of getting ignorant people to pay money for some terrible filesharing software.

I dont know the answer to your WinMx question but let me give you some advice: drop WinMx. The network is dead. If you need something good and easy for music try FrostWire or Ares.

As much as I wouldnt baby Uncle Floyd along . . as he has been here enough to find his way around, in all fairness, Winmx went down due to a version upgrade, and it was my search for answers that brought me to Zero Paid. I agree Winmx is crap, but its a legit question.

What we SHOULD be discussing is . .

If you cant connect and it just keeps trying but NO go . . .

What can you do to determine of their network or servers are down? or up?

What diagnostic procedures can a lay person do to test their system, ISP, or the P2P network, in this case, Winmx?

This thread is now a BEST PRACTICES thread specifically for troubleshooting from the client computer toward the Winmx servers , , , think thru your answers carefully before you post them, and take the time to invest in a learning exersize that will apply to ALL P2P APPS.

Who goes first . . remember your answering me not Uncle Floyd only.

2 of the host servers were down for about 18 hours. Both are back up and working fine. Your problem should be resolved now.

And I'll add this, I still prefer this network. Fanboying your own shit when someone asks a legit question is not helpful
