If Apple Computer is so great, how come it's so small?

With all the hoopla surrounding the company--and you'll hear a lot this week as Apple turns 30--you'd think it pulled off the first manned spaceflight to Neptune or invented long division. Instead, the company's recent accomplishments include making it possible to buy Foghat singles on the Web and selling a leather pouch for music players for $99.

Apple held 2.3 percent of the world's computer market at the end of last year. If you compare that to global population figures, Apple is roughly the Philippines, Ghana and Spain combined.

Apple shipped 4.74 million Macs in calendar year 2005. That's 20 percent lower than the growth in shipments (5.7 million) Dell experienced in the same year. Dell, in other words, grows an Apple and a fifth a year--and investors worry about Dell losing its edge?

Note before any fanboying starts, these are not my views, and I thought it would make for interesting discussion.

I like big Mac's with special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

Now with new Intel processors...NOT! I can't even pirate half the software I need for a Mac. What makes them so good that even their version of office costs so much more? They may be good for sound and graphics, but I'll stick to PC's for now.

Apple fails at many things
A. not having 500GB iPods for us big music buffs with all this "legal" music ;)
B. They used to use their own Processors and laughed at intel comparing them to snails!
LOOK WHOOSE USING INTEL NOW!! MWHAHA
C. They keep eveything too closed and fade on systems from upgrading OS'S like if you not have FW ports built in to your computer.
D. TOO EXPENSIVE
E.All there OS's (Especially OSX Tiger suck compared to windows if you ask me, they all look the same and do nothing really)
F. No good Games
G. There are no good cracks, hacks, keygens, workarounds for pirated goods, what p2p is all about (JK ONLY LEGAL SHARING ;) )
yup Windows XP "Experience the BEST of the Digtial Age" aka BEFORE THE MPAA & RIAA PAY US OFF TO RUIN THE NEXT VERSION WITH DRM!

The pros of macs is that they are very user friendly, most idiots can use them. For ease of use I would put apple at the top, then windows then linux. The big problem with mac is that they are staying too exclusive, most of the hardware for their machines are apple hardware and their is very little support compared to pc. If they could work on those issues it would be a great platform. Sadly its their exclusiveness that makes it user friendly.

Some would argue that its not user friendly since most parts work on it and it confuses people on what to buy but those people will have to be beyond ignorant and should be asking for help if they know so little about computers.

A) I agree totally, i can't fit my collection on the biggest ipod they sell, [edit]oops not iriver it's ARCHOS with the 100 gig player

B) have to disagree, the PPC chips are architectually superior, however intel designs have a huge volume advantage and IBM was never particularly interested in improving PPC desktop performance. due to this x86 has surpassed PPC in cost/performance and heat/performance.

E) no way, OSX is much nicer than Windows
F) if MS hadn't bought bungee Halo was going to be a mac game. you can play world of warcraft on Mac

G) that's bull, there are plenty of cracked apps on mac torrent sites and mac warez channels

and when my mac locked up (A power PC with Tiger)
IT CRASHED AND gave me a BLINKING BLACK SCREEN WITH UNREADABLE text!!!
