Does anyone know where files are located physcally on the computer as we download them. I've looked and can't seem to be able to locate the actual dynamic file as it is being downloaded. Obviously it must be located somewhere, but it's a mystery to me.

on winmx they are located in the folder you specify for incoming files.
in version 3.1 teh will have a __INCOMPLETE label at the begininng of the filename.

yeah.. When I installed 3.1I clicked "next" too quickly and was unsure where my downloads went. So I did a windows find search to locate the files. This will tell you where they are located. You can also go in settings to find where Winmx is placing your files...

vLADD44, I realize that when a file is finished downloading it is located in the folder that I designate (default is c:\my documents\my music). If incomplete, the file will start with the designation __Incomplete____*****.
My question is:
Where is the file located BEFORE it is done downloading? Say I have a file that is currently downloading. It has downloaded 300,000,000 of 500,000,000 so far and is continuing to download.
My question is where is that 300,000,000 bits located until the file is done downloading or the download interupted? If I look at the incoming folder, it will give the name of the file, but say 0 for file size until the download is either completed or interupted. . Only after the download is complete/interupted will the size reflect acurately.
WinMx must dump our incoming files somewhere until the download is complete / interupted. Then the file can be put in the incoming folder with the proper size and name (incomplete or not).
Anybody know our downloads go until then????

Calvin & Hobbes, Your files are located where Vladd 44 said they were even as they are downloading. The filesize says zero because the file isn't complete yet, thats all.
To test this, just right click on one of these incomplete files and copy it. Then paste it into a different folder. Then u can watch your partially downloaded video.

Thanks vladd44 and Neverwasorwillbe, you are right. just copy the file from the shared folder in Explorer, paste to another folder, are run it to view a partially downloaded video. As an aside, if you want to view a partial avi file, download http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divfix.html
It's a simple program that re-indexes your avi file and let you view what you have downloaded so far.
