So I got an invite from someone kind enough to give it.
I downloaded 3 torrents of a little less popular nature. I realized that nobody was uploading them from me and inquired here as to what to do. It was suggested that I upload unique files to compensate and bring my ratio up. I searched around to find what I might call unique files.
In the meantime oink disabled my account. Elitist c*#+$..
The thing that annoys me most is that I got f' all from them because I didn't want to just keep downloading at a deficit.

rather than badmouthing them, why not rectify the situation and speak to an admin who will re-activate your account in about 2 minutes providing your ratio is in a fixable state.
Usually you get 7 - 14 days trail period to bring your ratio close to 1.
Go here (http://oink.me.uk/chat.php) if you're interested.

I think its 7 days. The thing about it, being closed up. You dont have all the hit and runners that bring up your ratio so far.. People pick and choose what to download and what not to download. Make sure your connectable and not behind a firewall. It helps in uploading to peers who arent connectable. A friend i invited didnt download, but upload flac albums and have a high ratio without downloading anything. I guess when its high enough, hell start downloading.
Ill send you another invite in couple weeks when i get one.

Just upload in flac and download in mp3, I can usually get between 15 - 20 Downloads for Everyone 1 Upload.

I know how you feel on that. I grabbed a couple dl's... and chose poorly. Both of them are still below 50% on ratio.
I upped 3 or four cd's I had sitting around (EAC/LAME rip @ 320) that were just obscure enough to not already be there, and I am seeding those plus my orginal two downs. I have also grabbed the pitchfork for 2000's, and severly throttled the d/l so that the ratio will close in better.
If I didn't know better, I would say that even seeding has an heirarchy.
Anyway, I'm at .8 now, and hoping I can get it up to 1.0....

Oink doesnt have dvds or any video.
Got 50 gigs to give, i download alot of my music through other avenues unless a great personal rip or something i cant find elsewhere.
Filling the request section does help alot if you see something you have.

Private trackers can be a bitch to keep a good ratio on, and oink is about the worst.
The philosophy of the admins of booting people out for small ratio infringements may sound savage, but put yourself in their position. They have a site which is massively in demand, where they can have their pick of huge numbers of users, and where their no1 interest is to protect the community they already have. You cant blame them for booting out anyone they suspect isn't commited to giving something to their community.
It's tempting as a newbie to adopt the kid in a sweetie shop approach and just dive in and download anything and everything. However, the sensible way to begin is only to download the newest torrents and upload your own shit until you build a good ratio. Throttling your uploads to less than your downloads sounds like commonsense but is probably not a good idea.
My advice is to PM an admin, let him know your situation and tell him you have every intention of uploading unique stuff. if you can't find unique stuff to upload, PM me and i will happily send you something you can upload.
It is also a good idea to look through the requests section and find something other people want. Some of the stuff with four or five votes can be dug up quite easily. Also, if you can find a big iso to upload to the windows apps section this will enhance your ratio way better than any mp3 upload.

It's a tough crowd.I wanted to get some ratio room so I immediately filled a request upon joining. Then I went to lunch. It was my first upload at any site using utorrent and it got put in an inaccessible subfolder which no one could download from.
By the I got back from lunch I had 4 PM's from people bitching. One chick even demanded that I "please start seeding immediately or there will be consequences".Holy shit!!
I wanted to tell her to fuck off but it would have reflected on the person who invited me.

You act like public trackers and torrent sites servers couldnt get raided, and its exposed to everyone at any given time.

No I don't and they have. Its just if you truely think about it, the penalties of being a member of any file swapping site could be far worse than grabbing a stray file from an open site. Just like these guys http://www.news14charlotte.com/content/local_news/?ArID=118580&SecID=2 Its likley the FBI will go after organized pirate rings before they will go after public sites for many reasons.
I really dont want the FBI on my ass, I don't know about you, but if a person is uploading a lot of torrents of new type content, the feds are likley to notice and thats never a good thing. IMO, private sites are the worst thing to come along for file sharers, ever. Mostly because they give a false sense of being beyond the law and completly safe. I would feel amiss if I didnt speak my mind on this subject. The only upside is fast downloads, the downside far outweighs that benefit.
Dont be offended by my opinion. If you think nothing will ever happen to the members of these sites thats your judgement call, so go for it.
But remeber this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Site_Down
They have done it before, you best believe they are still out there

They says usually paranoids are causing a panic amongst torrents site. What is more dum is people lies about it. More times then this its a reaction to fear that users run and cry fbi are around the sites chance comes from it when u piracy.

You dont do enough downloading or uploading to be even the slightest intrest to a node on winmx, much less the FBI. Its not a FEDERAL crime to share music like on oink. Under the new copywrite law, being a person to release albums before it comes out constitutes a federal crime. As seen by the people who released RYAN adams album on the net. But how does one gov raid servers in foreign countries that keep no logs, no data, no visible info but a encrypted passkey, nothing of value but a ratio? Can it be contested that the people of oink may have been uploaded anything that is not represented by the RIAA or Mpaa?? Wait, there is no videos, movies.. So anything can be contested by the RIAA? I ask this. Why are you here? Why oh why? Its a file sharing site, your talking like your afraid to get a movie that was done after 1989, or afraid to download that album because 8 years havent passed. Or even stuck on winmx heaven since the files you get are so obsolete that RIAA wont sue since the byte rate of the mp3 screams 128kbs.
Any P2P network out there makes a pirate ring. Its that its deceptive cause the people decentralized the network, and rely on you good folks to be the ones sued, raided, or shut down. Has kazaa creater or EDONKEy creater been brought to justice since creating a p2p app that lets you share movies as well as music?? Oh it does get justified that it has innocent little files on there that gives it the illusion of being of a legal purpose. Everyone knows there never be completely safe, if you want security. Call your ISP and have it canceled. It only took me 2 years to gain all the stuff I loved to watch, hear, view, use.
Once you establish a community, a place flourishes. Sense of pride, help, people, and a ever so present feeling of common wealth. People learn how to make a torrent, upload, seed, get from a firewall, get their file, compress, decompress, burn, mount, join, split, play, record, and enjoy what they have gotten. Every p2p app made before is a dieing breed. People shut off share folders, limit uploads, put channels like on winmx to trade rather then share, mislabled files, virus or exe extensions on the back of songs, bogus files. MPAA and RIAA sent messages out to users on kazaa to tell them to stop distributing and using files, as well as spread fake files and fake hashes, long queues, long waits, slow speeds.
I dont have to be faster then the FBI when getting the files, just faster then you :P~
