hey, i use utorrent, it's the best bittorrent app in my opnion, i tryd to use the mini-guide in the utorrent site forum, and by it's calculations i should use 12 connections per torrent and 96 as a global maximum, but it goes very slow, but when i put both settings on 350 connection i get the best speeds, why is this? i have a 1500/96 kb/s connection (slow, i know)

The max connections refers to how many user the torrent will attempt to connect to receive data. If more connections are allowed, you have more users connected to you sending data (therefore, a faster speed). Global means the total number allowed for all active torrents, where as the per torrent is exactly what it says.
There are drawbacks to more connections, however. Too many connections can flood your cpu and slow down your computer (350 won't on a modern PC), but more likely too many will overload your router, particularly DLink routers, and cause it to lose your internet connection.
Another big factor in speed is setting a proper upload speed. If you allow your upload speeds too high, your download speed will be slower because of TCP/IP overhead. The best way to get the best settings is to play around with them and experiment until you find optimal performance!

Windows XP will have maximum of ten connections of if you have the SP2 installed. Theres a program that lets you open up more connections to your pc. But on private sites, the tracker works alot better then public sites. For instances they will connect you to the seed and to people in a closer area to where you are. Your speed will be more constant with rises as new people connect and create a web. You may need to get out from behind your firewall by forwarding router ports. www.portforwarding.com can help you to.

No it does not.
The sp2 limit is on the number of connections to the same remote port number that are in the process of being opened. I have not found this to have a significant impact on filesharing software.
