I just moved to a new house. I have shaw cable extreme speed, which so far, seems to be pretty good, as long as I have an ethernet cable plugged in. I have a D-Link router and my laptop has an Intel Pro/wireless 2200 B/G net adapter. The problem is I can only see my network in the room where the router and modem are. So if I even walk out the door of this room I lose my signal. My last place could pick it up from one side of the house to the other in my garage. I know they aren't perfect for reception, but nothing that I can see should be affecting it. I don't have any other wireless devices in the house. It's just drywall and wood walls. I have gone through set up many times over. I disabled encryption to see if that would help, but not! I have tried using a longer antenna attachment, to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try placing the router at it's highest point away from everything that may interfere (radios, speakers, monitors ect)

Also, feel free to check the condition of all cables and connections to make sure they're 100%. Recheck your settings also.

Auggie, I tried all that and still no signal, so a quick router upgrade was just what I needed. All good now. thx

Check your router and adapter properties for signal strength sensitivity and output power, make sure that no type of sleep or pwr management is enabled.

...you could have a lot of metal in the walls, kinda blocking the signal..maybe a wireless bridge as an option.
