The United States Department of Justice on Tuesday heralded a victory in federal court against three members of the "Apocalypse Crew" warez group.

The individuals were sued for sharing digital pre-release copies of songs and albums through P2P networks, and have pleaded guilty.

The RIAA, meanwhile, sued another 750 people in its own crackdown on piracy. In a statement, the DOJ said Derek Borchardt, 21, of North Carolina; Matthew Howard, 24, of Colorado; and Aaron Jones, 31, of Oregon obtained the music through insiders at record companies, magazine publishers and retail outlets. Songs were stored on servers run by the group.

People just never seem to learn. Dont share music/movies before their release date unless you want the RIAA to go after you.

Is it really accurate to compare the 750 to the 3 as if they're the same thing though?
The 3 were committing an actual criminal act. They were charged criminally. The 750 are being taken to court civilly in a lawsuit. It's the difference between Law and Order, and Judge Judy. One might make the arguement the 750 were trading items. The 3 were stealing them.
To take it to another level, if a 6 year old sings Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer, then his friend hears it, and he sings it, he's song-lifting. Is that the same thing as someone taking a copyrighted work, and depriving the rights holder of first release?

It was a criminal act because the law says so, not because it's bad. I happen to like getting cd's months before they are released.

Whatever, they were both doing the exact same thing. Neither were charging for their shit (Assuming I read the article correctly). They were doing us all a favor, and we should be unhappy about this.

Go fuck yourself.

Songlifter makes me think more along the lines of weight training than theft.
"So Bill what's do you do for a living?"
"I'm a professional song lifter. I'm up to 400lbs now".

Serial Downloaders? Song Stalking? Will we have a MPS (Music Protective Services) to conduct IPOD spot checks to see if all those mp3's were paid for? CITIZEN! As a matter of fact, i do give back to the scene that i love so much, but it happens to be different than yours, and because of the arguments you've posed in the past... i've come to the conclusion that your a complete fucking moron, either that a or a very biased and non understanding person.

I will say this again!! No one has been sued, or arrested for downloading supposed copyright material. The only people who have been sued civily and had criminal charges field against them were those who either distributed (shared) or sold (priracy) or allowd the distribution of supposed copyrighted material through their internet service.
You can spin yell and scream all you want Sandra, but that is the TRUTH!,
