V For Vendetta stars Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving in a world where power and corruption have permeated the government and a dictatorship has arisen.

Date: February 27, 2006

Synopsis:

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante (Hugo Weaving) known only as "V."

Profoundly complex, V is at once literary, flamboyant, tender and intellectual, a man dedicated to freeing his fellow citizens from those who have terrorized them into compliance. He is also bitter, revenge-seeking, lonely and violent, driven (http://iesb.net/warnerbros2006/022706.php#) by a personal vendetta.

In his quest to free the people of England from the corruption and cruelty that have poisoned their government, V condemns the tyrannical nature of their appointed leaders and invites his fellow citizens to join him in the shadows of Parliament on November the 5th – Guy Fawkes Day.

On that day in 1605, Guy Fawkes was discovered in a tunnel beneath Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. He and his co-conspirators had engineered the treasonous “Gunpowder Plot” in response to the tyranny of their government under James I. Fawkes and his fellow saboteurs were hanged, drawn and quartered, and their plan to take down their government never came to pass.

In the spirit of that rebellion, in remembrance of that day, V vows to carry out the plot that Fawkes was executed for attempting on November 5th in 1605: he will blow (http://iesb.net/warnerbros2006/022706.php#) up Parliament.

As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious past, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plan to ignite a revolution, bringing freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.

V sounds interesting.
And who knows....Ultraviolet could actually turn out ok.
I thought The Island was gonna suck, but it actually was a cool movie(although a bit unbelievable).

this one sounds like it has a decent plot, at any rate. the island was ok, but in futuristic movies, how come people all dress alike? just wondering....

Another comic book movie... They have to dig deep for this story, hope they do as good a job as Sin City, but I doubt it...

Mila JOVICH can act.. She is awesome in Resident EVIL. I got her album too.Million Dollar Hotel, The messenger joan of arc. She is a better physical actress then alot others. Saw BLOODRAYNE, terrible, Underworld with Kate, not as strong.

And she's um... hot as hell.

She did own ass on the Resident Evil movies. She put it all into the part. Can't blame her that it wasn't some oscar fodder. Sometimes you just need to kick ass.

I agree in that Jovavich was good in The Messenger.

I read the V for Vendetta comics years ago. Very good story.

dunno, just find her a little wooden. hubby says she could probably read the phone book for 2 hrs. and most guys wouldn't mind anyways :) never bothered with bloodrayne, and after seeing underworld, i didn't bother with the sequel, although i've heard a lot of people say it was better than the original.

I have the first issue of the series I bought when I was much younger but my comic shop didn't carry the rest because of poor sales. They often sold the number 1 issue of anything because they sell so well. I couldnt get into it so I didn't ask them to order the series for me even though I was a huge allan Moore fan at the time, his Swampthing run remains the best shit Ive ever read in comics (along with sandman and HellBlazer). I have the whole series and alot of other Moore comics now on my computer. Just got to take the time to read them all.

I really wish the would do an HBO mini series on The Watchmen. Thats one awesome mini series.

Allan Moore didnt write Top Ten but that would make a great adult TV series too.

After reading what people are saying on IMDB I think this movie must be good. Vertigo needs a hit after their last POS. I never though my favorite comic company, a brnach of giant DC comics, would last even a few years and now they have formed their own movie production company. Amazing! People thought I was so weird for reading these strange adult comics but it looks like they only needed a few years to see the light. Vertigo has produced some amazing comics over the years. Everyone should look into them.

I couldnt get into comic books. I guess the imagination is greater then some of the art work or drawn up stuff.. I loved books, but other then comic books.. They either cost a ridiculous amount of money, you had to keep them prestine to get money back.. and they can consume your life. But i know someone on my route that bought a house by selling first prints of two popular comic books. 30,000 downpayment.

You may have just read the wrong stuff. There are lots of titles that are a cut above the average books. I left Superman and Spiderman behind as an adult and found many mature books that are simply awesome. I went for mostly horror titles and fantasy too. Try to find Sandman somewhere around. This is one of the best stories ever told in my opinion. It also won many fantasy awards, beating out regular books and praise from every critic whos ever took the time to read it. Its 73 issues long but well worth the read.

I was always a thumb comic reader. If the art didn't catch me, I'd drop it. Though, sometimes the story was enough to almost ignore the art.

Last series I was even remotely into was the Alex Ross illustrated Earth-X run from Marvel. OH, and I got the first couple issues of the Evil Dead comic.

I saw the film before i read the comic book but i didnt like it that much.

The Wakowski brothers should not write scripts. Their pseudo intellectual matrix sequel dialog hampers the film but they thankfully keep close to the comic books script most of the time.

The director had a really heavy handed way of making sure any symbolism is 100% clear to the viewer, this brings as much subtly as a wrestler would in trying to ballet dance.

James McTeigue does not have enough experience to handle a story like V for Vendetta, Robert Rodriguez made Sin City after a decade of honing his skills and it shows.

The acting was decent overall, but Natalie Portman's english accent is weak.

Most of the good bits in the film were when they stayed very close to the comic book (the prison letter scene), the slow motion 'knife time' fight seen was impressive but didnt really fit in with the rest of the film. The Benny Hill esk comedy scene was very unfunny and i dont know why on earth they felt that was needed.

I found V For Vendetta a disappointingly average film. If you want to watch a good political film watch 1984 or even Team America.

The only reason i would ever want to watch it again is a shallow one: Natalie Portman in a cute outfit.

i don't think there's any version out but a cam (TS at best), and the quality detracts from the movie experience. i saw it in theaters and then looked at the dl quality and i know that it just makes the movie less enjoyable. just letting you know this being's opinion.
