How do I download specific files from a single torrent?

I came across a torrent containing a collection of music files totalling 40 GB. The torrent contains over 200 files. I had been searching for the individual files without success, but now that I’ve found the complete collection I’d like to do my best to acquire it.

Now, my laptop stores only 30 GB, with currently 4 GB of free space remaining. Of course, when I try to download using Azureus I am told I do not have enough memory for the task.

Can I download selected files from such a large torrent in my situation?

Unless the torrent tells you what is in each rar file, I dont think theres any way of knowing.

The only sujestion I have for you is a bad one, go out and buy a bigger harddrive. For 100$ your problem will be solved.

Heres what you do.. IF its not in winrar and labeled 1-50 and split to multiple winrar parts. The task is easy. Go into torrent details, and you should see a file list the torrent contains to download. You should be able to higlight the ones you want and put download first, and on the rest. You select download never. ABC does this and uTorrent. Azureus should do it. Start the torrent up and PAUSE IT!! THen go in and select the files you want. Remember you have to stop the files you dont want. You may have to turn off the feature that allocates space.

Azureus is the ability to select some files in the torrent not to be downloaded. To do this you must right click on the download and click Show Details. Click the Files tab and find a file that you don't want to be download, right click it and set the priority to Do not download. This can be pretty handy in some situations.

With the new version on Azureus you are given the option when you OPEN TORRENT to add a torrent. It gives you a list of files and you can specify the ones you want.

But I agree with mountain_rage, get an external hard drive to connect to your USB port.

-Disable the file allocation first
-Open the torrent for download
-Go to the properties and "select do not download" on the files you DONT want
-Start the torrent and let the job finish

It's a easy as that.

Ah I just figured he'd been searching for these indivual songs via eDonkey or Gnutella. I myself, don't trust RAR's on BT sites (public ones mainly) because you have to download the whole thing or depend on the comments to find out the contents of it.

Thanks to everyone for their response. I am now able to select the files I want to download from a torrent!

Firstly, the files were not compressed or split using winrar (.rar). Each file was labelled in (.mp3) format.

I had to research how to disable the file allocation feature in Azureus. By default, Azureus pre-allocates the torrent: reserves the entire space on the filesystem. I had to enable incremental file creation. ‘Selecting this option will result in Azureus only reserving as much disk space as is necessary for it to write the latest piece it has received.’ More information can be found here:

• SELECT Tools tab --> Options --> Files --> Enable incremental file creation
• I then followed the instructions posted above.

I also downloaded uTorrent, very user friendly when selecting specific files in a torrent. I noticed with both programs, uTorrent & Azureus, that my upload speed was, at least, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or evn 6x faster than my download speed. Due to the overall file size of this torrent are their any posts in Zeropaid that inform on how to maximize download speeds?

And on the upload front, this is normal when your only downloading partial files. Your craving only a few peers while everyone else is connecting to any other available peers. If you select to download all the files, you'll see improvements. It's totally normal in this situation.
