I am having problems making any p2p connect. The current one I am trying it Edonkey - as a free user with ads. I have tried ares, kaza, morpheus, I cant make any of them work. I used to use morpheus and kaza back when I was on dialup, but now I am on a LAN. I have not made one work since. None of the programs can connect for me. Edonkey lets me search even though im not connected, so I thought I had my best chance there. Im using windows xp with SP2 and windows firewall with edonkey allowed. Can anyone give me advice? Id really like to use one of these programs.

Ok, open up eDonkey. Inside eDonkey, note the TCP and UDP ports shown in Options>Network. Next...

Go to Control Panel>Windows Firewall>Exceptions>Add Port and add the UDP and TCP ports separately.

Call them "eDonkey TCP" and "eDonkey UDP" respectively plainly for the ease of clarification later on.

NOTE: Don't use the port 6666 like above. I just put that in there for explaination purposes ok.

You can optionly use the provided FAQ answer that's on the eDonkey2000 site which is found here.

Make sure you forward the correct ports to your router, more info here.

I tried adding the ports to the firewall, then I tired this connection tester.

Testing your connection
Occasionally Unreachable status can be assigned, even though the client is having no problems accepting incoming connections. This test web page was created on a Reachable server to test your client. While eDonkey is running visit the Connection Tester, enter the TCP port shown in Options -> Network, and click test. It will attempt to connect to your eDonkey client. If it returns an error a firewall, gateway, router (or possibly something else) is blocking your connecting to eDonkey. This could result in one of two things:
A) You will receive Unreachable while connected to eDonkey, and may not be able to achieve full transfer speeds.
B) You will be unable to connect to the eDonkey network.

It says "error on ip
This means you will likely receive a firewalled status within the client. "

Should I try changing ports? to my knowlege, Windows firewall is the only one I have. :icon_scra

EDIT: ok, im looking there now.

Do you have a router? This will also firewall you. If so you need to forward ports on the router.

Youre on a fucking long distance WIRELESS ISP (and a dinky one at that!)

Do you think theyre not going to filter P2P traffic on this?

Whats everyone smoking today, you should have caught this.

You, go back to your ISP and ask them if they are filtering P2P traffic, before we spend any more time with you!

He could always try azureus with their new encrytped peers implementation.

He could try a cup on a string too, but its easier when he just starts with facts instead of coming here and expecting us to be the psychic hotline.
