How do you check whether your router and Firewall is properly configured? Are there any speed tests?
Another question, when using mIRC i get a lot of messages appearing on seperate screens adverising different sites and networks, Can I disable this?
THANK YOU

DCC transfers either work or they don't. Just try to download a file. If it works your configuration is ok.

You can choose which port to use on DCC, but you have to enable it on your router, and possibly windows xp firewall. But if your on a server, and its connected to others. There can be lag, disconnections, and speed issues. But to disable the message screen. You can choose it to go into one window rather then a window for individual messages you get. What you need is a MIRC script at www.mircx.com Or google it.

IRC is for chatting. File transfers are just an extra feature of it. There are ways of blocking messages, eg. if you get really fed up of someone, you can /ignore them, but I'd just put up with it, unless you're willing to learn the more advanced features of mirc like scripting. :)

There are scripts around to stop popups, but usually they're not a big problem.
btw there's a new version of mIRC out- 6.17 http://www.mirc.com/get.html

looking at what mIRC scripts are, it all looks very complicated
Thanks for all the suggestions
Does anyone recommend using AutoXDCC?

Scripts come with instructions. You put it in a MIRC directory. And type a /load *Whatever message* . In the MIRC window. ANd its done, you right click on different parts and brings up more options.
