Most of what I see there is stuff that can already be done in XP using 3rd party software or just tweaking it.
Still cool though :-)

Basically all those shots showed were the new graphics of XP. I would turn those off anyway, if there is a way.

Are you sure these screenshots were not just doctered?
It is a little blurry but there is the "Windows XP" title. I have a clearer version but I cannot upload it to Zeropaid because of the size but click LilBlueDawg's link and see for yourselves.
Just my observation...

rofl i find this funny, microsoft is copying from mac os x, mac os x has jaguar, (jagwire as steve jobs calls it), and the next windows os is longhorn, next thing you'll see are windows switch ads. not like im dissin windows, i am on xp pro, one of the most stable os windows has.

These are unquestionably fake. In various shots you see the OS named:
Windows Codename: Longhorn
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Microsoft Longhorn XP Professional
Microsoft Longhorn XP Media Center Edition
Somehow I doubt one OS version would describe itself as all of these. Also hard to believe is that Microsoft would actually refer to their beta as "Codename Longhorn".

What would be the point of faking screenshots of Longhorn?

LOL i saw those floating around about 1 year ago. I have already made my computer look like that in the past with STYLEXP, any skinning program is capable of making windows look like that, infact my OP SYS as it is now, looks like something from 2007.
Very easy to do with StyleXP and Object Desktop. Nice pictures, but you can download that package from various skinning websites, and has already been shown to be bunk.

regardless of whether they are fake or not... am I the only one only seeing very subtle changes???
When are we going to see major changes like Windows 95 was over Windows 3.11? That one really made you go... wow! A revolution. Windows 98, 98SE and ME were jokes, Windows 2000 was a major step in the right direction (under the hood) and Windows XP brought it all together. But looks-wise Windows XP is more or less the same as Windows 95 was back in those days. I can't say it's the best interface though.
Even more important: why do we need a new OS? Windows XP is working perfectly fine...

Windows XP has major hardware problems on my computer.. still trying to get answers on that. Windows 2000 has been (by FAR) the best operating system I have ever had (XP is better but I can't get it to work right)
Please don't get me started on Windows 95/98/98se/ME or I might crumbled into a ball of flesh and teirs.
May God banish Bill Gates to the burning hells for cursing so many computers with Windows ME.

Hmm...Interesting if nothing else...I guess it could be some update to XP. The thing that really made me think it was fake were those green bars underneath the drives in the My Computer window.

The official site doesn't seem all that official....since it's taking images from some little @home type webpage....LOL
It does look a tad fake but I'm not totally sure.....leaning towards fake though.
As for WinME it does suck on it's own but if you use an upgrade disk an install 95 then up to ME it's not that bad.....I've have like 1 crash every week or so an that's with the system on 24/7 - plus the crashes are my fault LOL - like If I'm playing mr. lets remove some code here an there with a program it'll crash that program an sometimes the task bar......but I've never had the whole BSOD shit happen in any major way. As for XP...I find it a joke....they changed shit but it looks like AOL now LOL Like IQ said before.....round corner windows DIE!!!!!!!
So if I had to choose....I'd say either 95/ME/XP pro/Win2k/WinNT
Rest suck to much to deal with.
Maybe I'll just go full Linux when it get's to the point where I can play all my games on Wine......

No fucking thanx! LOL
Sooner then later Linux will take over....Long live the penguin!!!!!!

My God man! One crash every week? Even more you DON'T get BSODs every ten seconds??? You either have God himself as your computer, whos powers are barely enough to stop WinMEs rampage, or you are one lucky bastard. When I had WinME I crashed AT LEAST once a day, and was lucky NOT to get the BSOD every damn few hours. I had to reboot regardless of a crash at least 5 times a day, and was lucky not to have to make a hard shut down (hold the button).
Seriously though, how are you able to keep it so stable? That is next to a miracle in my mind.

Like I said LOL get yourself a copy of win95 - IE edition or the original an a copy of the WinME upgrade disk......then play around an tweak whatever you want to tweak - doesn't really matter. That's about it I installed 95 then upgraded to ME an did a quick broadband tweak in the reg. Haven't had any problems or crashes with it. It's also a good idea to run msconfig an remove all that winmanagement shit along with any other shit your software sets up like winamps agent,PC health, loadpower profile, ect. that's like a #1 problem with some mobos. The damn power management shit don't work right, along with all that stupid energy star shit.....
It's like Krell said "I run clean an lean" or something to that effect....start off with a system that boots up barebones an it should be pretty stable after that it's just a matter of watching what loads up an how things are loaded. So if you install something like Real One (I'm sure you won't it's just an example LOL) an it loads it's shitty real tray thing - open msconfig an remove it. Stay on top of that kind of shit an your bound to have a pretty stable system.
Try an get a copy of 95 an the upgrade disk....I'm sure it'll run worlds better if you start off with that.
Peace all, Later
I take it the copy of WinME you had was either a full copy or compaq/HP/Gateway/ect. OEM disk type install? Those OEM's are.....trash LOL

For the record, XP is more in league with Win2k and WinNT than 95 and ME. It's basic architecture is Win2k, which is why it's so much more stable than ME or 9x ever were. What do you mean by "the rest"? You basically named all the series of Windows, unless you have it in for 3.x, which is ancient anyways. I dunno about Microsoft. I love XP and I've liked their OS series enough in the past to not put Linux on my comp. I don't like the .NET stuff either though (the tracking, etc). I wouldn't be surprised if there is something floating around the net that disables that (ala KaZaa Lite). Overall though, I'm quite pleased with XP, and I've been a Windows user since the 3.x days... Ah, good old dosshell though...
p.s. I don't see Linux taking off except for the users in the compu-geek categories. I, personally, am intrigued by Linux. It's just always fun to screw around with another OS. However, for the average user, I just don't see any real future unless there are products made exclusively for it that are indispensable enough to make it necessary to run Linux. Given the huge installed user base for Windows, I don't see that happening in the current environment. I hear the Wine argument, but unless, like I said, there is a real reason to have Linux in the first place, why would someone bother installing it to run all their windows stuff through wine(which isn't fully compatible anyways).?

I've been running it since back in the day too.....an I know that XP is a "kiddy interface" over a win2k shell an kernel.
But XP isn't my cup of tea......the rest would be 98 an XP.....3.1 was what it was.....it was decent for its time. But 98 was god awful an so is XP....XP pro is decent but I still won't use it.
As for linux.......go download/buy a copy of caldera or red hat an check it out.....it blows all windows OS's away but you do have to know what your doing....an since you said you've been with windows since it was buddied up with command line dos....you should be able to get use to unix commands.....there a tad different but the concepts are still the same.
An for your info....95/ME are very stable if you know how to tweak it right....even without shit loads of sockets an the ability to create raw sockets...(XP does) ME an 95 were decent...even if 95 is 16bit with shitty 32bit over it.....but even with all that said....I'm still all for linux.....as soon as wine gets a nice all around compatible version going I'm saying bye bye to micro suck......

Linux is great for programming C and C++. It has a built in compiler and, because it is way more stable than Windows, is great for trying out your programs. Linux is also constantly evolving and, at the rate it is moving, should be workable for the average user in just a few years.
Remember too that Linux is open source, not one of Microsoft's pet projects. It WILL get better, as the people improve it.
