View Full Version : What brand of ROUTER if any do you use?

Taking a poll of to try and gauge most common brand of router used. Linksys would be the probable answer for most, but want to gauge other types used so that we can offer support for other types as well as obviously user interfaces vary.

None here, not needed. Wireless antenna on my roof and a ethernet cable comes straight down into my laptop.

I'll be picking up a wireless router soon enough but the most likely choice will be the Belkin, price and quality.

Microsoft! It works great, the signal is kinda sorta weak from outside but it reaches my entire house easily.

Had it for years.

Thank you Soul for this perfectly worthless poll, that serves little more than an opportunity for me to email these people, and see who responds from their Hotmail accounts. Then, I will route to their IP address and try the default passwords or flood them, and make them reset it.

Thank you.

Anybody wanna chat on MSN. . . . ?

I have a netgear and it pisses the hell out of me. Overall it seems to work alright but it doesnt let me run my motherboards firewall. When I contacted their support line to see what ports I should foward or would need to foward they told me I didnt need to use my firewall because the router has one.

Krell do alot of routers allow people to change the settings from the internet? I think mine only allows port one to change settings.

Krell, you'd really try to rob me? I thought better of you.

Here's my IP: xx.xx.xx.xx

lol

Oh, and let me give you a head start, I have the Linksys BEFSR41 Ver 2.0 with the latest firmware. I do have Remote admin on, but I've changed the port, so I better not give you my actual IP huh? You'd make quick work of robbing me.

Im gonna do a port forwarding tutorial, and as being that all have differing user interfaces, wanted to narrow it down to a few...............ps I know your IP adress big guy.....:P.....the bidding will begin shortly........ha ha..........

and if people havent set up their routers properly, ie a password other than the default "admin" or "password" BS they deserve all lthats coming their way.............

as a matter of fact sold my neighbor an old netgear router and was still configured to e-mail me the traffic logs, kept telling him to no avail to change it or least shove a pen in the reset hole to no avail, after a few days of seeing his "ebony foot fetish" site visits, finally logged on to that dam thing and reset it myself. Some people just dont care as long as they can connect I guess.

That was the point, what good is it to go on and on about which router is best, if you dont DO anything at all to lock it down? Besides it's too easy to have a little fun with these people. Had I not said anything, Im sure I could have gotten a few hotmail addresses to play with. (hotmail reveals your IP)

I already know you have my IP, as do the other mods . . . who are sometimes on my payroll shhhhh

What I'd like to see is a router that can stand up to heavy torrent use. I like to start large torrents before I go to bed, and let them run all night, and most of the next day to seed.

I was wireless at a friend's house on a Dell router, and after 12 hours it was dead, the network name was there, but I couldn't connect, and I felt stupid for making them have to do a hard reset. A Belkin did that too, and the net was on and off in bursts, and a restart fixed it just fine.

I think this is happening because of all of the connections BitTorrent makes, and I'd like to know if there's a router out there that could handle this. I'd be willing to pay more for something that can stand up to torrents, and was at least wireless G speed.

I have a router only because either my comp, or the integrated SP2 on my OEM of XP has a nazi lockdown on my ethernet port, and won't allow it internet access.

I already had the router and wireless card, and may as well, as after the move I will be sharing my connection again.

I voted other since I've got 2:
A Linksys Wireless (I forget the exact name) and a Dlink. Both are great, although the Linksys's wireless signal has a hard time getting to my room in the basement sometimes, but I kind of expected that.

WRT54GL. Open source, firmware written by linux geeks, not a corporation that doesn't care too much since they already got your money. Read more about it at www.hyperwrt.org

I've recently just aquired myself a wireless router off eBay, which is such a great place (been on it a week)

I got myself a Netgear WGR614 Wireless Router. And what a hell of a price I got it for, I love it.

As of a hour ago, I am the proud owner of a brand new Netgear WGR614NA Router from eBay.

I just have to wait on my 0.02 cent PCMCIA card from Japan before I can live it up a bit.

It depends. Some routers allow it by default, others don't.

As does every instant messenger when you send/recieve a file. Insert an invisible tracker in an email and unless the person you're sending it to doesn't get html enabled email you'll have their ip as well.
